So I just finished watching Kuuga, and I really enjoyed it. I plan on watching Agito next so I have to ask: is Agito a direct sequel to Kuuga or not really? Does it share any similarities to Kuuga?

They reference Kuuga as "Unidentified Life Form #2/4" and tell us, the audience, that after the attacks of a great threat in the past Japan build up their defense line but that's it. Never again is Kuuga mention and the events of Kuuga play no further role in Agito. Which leads some people to believe that it's some kind of weird alternate universe thing. But anyways, it's not really a direct sequel like for example Black RX is. And as far as similarities go, both shows feature a Rider with a similar design who changes forms and fights against monsters that kill humans based on a system. That’s the only similarities there are really, Agito’s plot and characters are entirely different, as are the enemies they face. I read some time ago that the monsters from Agito are supposed to be descendents of the Linto Tribe from Kuuga but that’s never mentioned in the show and it makes no sense really. |

Kuuga/Agito spoilers: I always liked the idea of the Linto being worshipers of the Overlord of Darkness and the Lords being their guardians. It's how I head canon Kuuga and Agito looking so similar: the Linto wanted to create a powerful warrior to fight the Grongi, so they made Kuuga. It stands to reason that the Linto would want their warrior to intimidate the Grongi, so why not pattern it after a terrifying creature from their own mythology? And if the Overlord of Darkness is God and the Lords are angels, then that would make Agito a demon. So Kuuga looks the way he does because his appearance is modeled after Agito. Completely 100% personal head canon, but the idea amuses me a lot. |
Thanks! I'm glad it seems to be a generally recommended series, because I really like the designs of Agito and G3 from what I've seen so far. I will definitely start it soon.

I had a blast with Kuuga and had lots of fun watching Agito as well. |

Gazai & Onpu Ganma wanted to paint & make music. I wonder if Book Ganma will do the same who wants to make stories.

Like with other people say, Agito has references to Kuuga but I don't view it as a sequel. They are set in the same world, but you don't need to watch one to watch the other. I view the same with Violence Jack and Devilman or with Frankenstein Conquers the World and The War of the Gargantuas.

I loved Kuuga, but I find Agito to be okay. The characters and designs are great, but the story feels underdeveloped.
I wouldn't consider Agito to be a follow up to Kuuga. You can watch it without having seen Kuuga and you'd be fine. |
I remember disliking Kuuga. Nothing really happened, and it focused on a bunch of side characters I didn't care about. The lore was interesting though. And it's defintley different from every other Heisei show.

What is the best use of Romance in Kamen Rider that isn't feel like a FORCED Romance?
Which romance that doesn't feel like a FORCED Romance and which Kamen Rider did the best use of Romance? Think they hinting at those 2 characters become couple or foreshadowing about this. I thought Daigo and Amy was feel like a forced romance, No proper hinting at them as a couple or a proper foreshadowing |
Daigo and Amy are from a Sentai, though.

In response to Agito discussion: I'm currently in the middle of episode 49 and Agito hasn't done too much for me. It's a bit better as of 40-ish, but most of the series seems like a lot of messing around with unimportant subplots that provide a tiny trickle of what the bigger picture is, and monster of the week plots with said monsters being wholly uninteresting.
The biggest criticism of Kuuga I've seen is that there isn't enough plot, but that's probably the main reason Agito has been kind of falling flat for me. At least with Kuuga you get to see the Grongi talking and hints of what they're doing, but in Agito you don't really know anything for a long time except monsters are attacking certain people and some weird characters who are maybe evil or maybe not are saying weird things to each other and doing weird stuff. I like Kuuga more because the Grongi are a lot more interesting as monsters of the week and Kuuga's form changes and belt are much better than Agito's. Although I'm different because the belt and gimmicks are pretty big factors in how much I like a show, which is why I'm more interested in Faiz than Ryuki even though I'm know the latter is better. |
Here's a rundown of my problems with Agito:
-Shouchi/Agito is a bland and uninteresting protagonist. Hikawa/G3 and Ryou/Gills both have more depth and motivation than Shouichi -Almost all of the plot elements are either explained very late in the show or aren't explained at all. Many of the things brought up at the beginning of the show are never discussed again. -Nearly half the show is pointless filler. There's no plot advancement or character development at all. -That stupid love triangle that takes up like ten episodes. -The villains are extremely underdeveloped. -At times the characters' plots feel all over the place, with groups of characters disappearing for episodes at a time. Honestly the only good episodes are maybe the first ten and then 30-45. The last 5 or so episodes are pretty bad. |
Now, I'm pretty new to this Kamen Rider business. I've watched several episodes of W, OOO, and Fourze, and all three of those use the two-episode story format. I've read that Gaim doesn't. Do all of the Heisei riders before Gaim do the two episode thing? Or just W through Wizard?

Which leads into my next question. Which series have the heaviest use of the MOTW format, and which ones tend to stray from it? |
A lot of the Pre-Decade Heisei series don't really use it beyond Den-O. A lot of them tend to stick to MOTW while furthering their plot.
I feel Kuuga made the heaviest use of MOTW. I also want to say Kabuto and Kiva, but it's been so long since I've seen them I can't properly remember. I think Gaim and Hibiki strayed from it the most. |

Do you like the idea of a villainous Billionaire Kamen Rider?
Since there's no main Kamen rider who is a billionaire, I thought it would be interesting idea since we haven't got a billionaire-type Kamen Rider who is a villain. Since he is a billionaire, What if he pay out all Evil Kamen Rider to be on his side and beat the crap out of Main Kamen Rider like when Triple H put a bounty on Goldberg in order to regain his World Heavyweight Championship. So basically this billionaire Kamen Rider put a bounty on Main Goody Two Shoes Kamen Rider like Kouta. Instead relay on monster of the week or Sentai-type foot soldier, Why not have him flash the cash on and get every evil Kamen rider on his side! He will says "I WANT KOUTA DEAD! I WANT HIM BLOODIED AS HELL! Get Him! Get Him!" Who like the idea of a villainous billionaire Kamen Rider pay all Evil Kamen Rider to beat the crap out of a goody two shoes Main Kamen Rider |
Wasn't Ryouma pretty wealthy?
|
I assume you mean like how Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne are wealthy? Not gonna lie, the thought has never crossed my mind. Uh....I guess it would be okay?

Edit: It was Imperor. Right near the end of his arc, after he inherited his family fortune. He tried to pay the other Riders to fight for him; it did not go well. |
Would you rather want Amazons Season 2 to be continuation from Season 1 or focus on another Amazon?
Giving it have 1001 Amazons, It make sense to have Amazons to get another season because you can't killed 1001 Amazons in 1 day! But would you want all season 1 characters to return or want all-new characters for Season 2? |

While I am a few episodes behind I can say that it should be a continuation. I like the characters that we have been following and want to see more from them. Plus there are just too many Amazons to kill in on 13 episode season. |
This might not be the best place for this question, but which fansub groups have the most accurate and consistent translations?

Which Summer Movie should be FINAL Episode?
I think Paradise Lost should be Final Episode of Faiz because the final episode we got didn't resolved at all! Toei should have made Faiz take place in alternate timeline like Saban did to Power Rangers RPM! Ha ha ha ha! |
I seen people that say Ryuki Final was a better ending to the show than the TV show ending. The movie did left things open with Ryuki and Knight at the end of the movie.
