It depends on the experience for the show was for me. I remember a few KR actors admit that they didn't like working on the show that they work on. I recall Joe Odagiri hated working on Kuuga.

Several of the actors from Hibiki were very vocal about their displeasure with the production staff shake-up. It was a pretty big deal since it was rare for actors to go public with those kinds of negative feelings.

Regarding Odagiri, from what I have gathered that whole "I hate toku, suck it" part was taken out of context somewhat. One thing about Odagiri is that in the late 90s he was going through a "drama/theater hipster" phase and hated mainstream acting and a children's show where folks change from casual clothes to a skintight bodysuit and fiber-reinforced plastic mask to fight ugly monsters while screeching "I will kick your ass for justice!" so casually probably will not float his boat circa late 1990s. Apparently the Kuuga staff(and probably/primarily Chief Producer Takatera who previously worked on Carranger and later went on to produce the first half of Kamen Rider Hibiki and Daimajin Kanon) noticed this during auditions and convinced him that they are also trying to break the mold with Kuuga, which was music to young padawan Odagiri's ears.

So thanks to a supportive environment he had the liberty to play the role of a superhero who was not the gung ho male toku lead that bellows "YOSHI, IKUZO!" every time and also allowed him to give his personal suggestions and opinions during filming which is pretty rare for a rookie actor that just got his/her first lead role I bet.

From the looks of it he enjoyed Kuuga despite still being a weekly 30-minute toy commercial + mainstream media at the time because he had a chance to grow as an actor while being part of a project that tried to do things differently for a rather formulaic series. Heck, he is still buddies with most of the actors and staff to the point where he attends private reunions, and if you see Daimajin Kanon which Takatera worked on, Odagiri cameos in it which is because he is still friends with Takatera.

Yep, I believe most toku fans were angry at the time. Also having the entire production team replaced mid-season is not a common sight so there's that too. My theory for the whole switcheroo is that Takatera's auteur tendencies reached its limit(remember, this was the man who was in charge of the show that engulfed a chapel in flames for the most badass debut of Kuuga Mighty Form) and Toei and Bandai probably was worried that they would go broke if they let him continue, so they kicked him out and replaced him with Shirakura who despite the hate and venom is known for bringing in profit in most of the stuff he works on.

There are a number of explanations. The ones that tend to get repeated the most are that it was likely a combination of a) production going significantly over-budget with all of the location filming, b) the producer's unwillingness to listen to Toei's demands to lower costs, and c) tanking toy sales. One of the best theories I've heard about Daimajin Kanon, which had a lot of Hibiki's original production staff (and is amazing and everyone should watch it), is that it's basically an allegory for Hibiki's production. Kanon is basically a stand-in for the producer, her scumbag boyfriend is Toei, and the song he stole and butchered to make a pop hit is Hibiki. I'm not sure how much, if any, of that was intentional, but it's a cool read on the series.

So, does Kamen Rider (and Sentai, while we're at it) usually shoot on sets? It all looks pretty on-location to me. I've been wondering for a while.

I think the tons of forest and mountain film locations is what blew the budget on Hibiki.

There are some sets, of course - like the temple on Ghost or Yamato's house on Zyuohger, but most of the action is shot outdoors. These shows shoot at a lot of the same locations over and over and over again, though. Watch a bunch of modern shows and see how often you see the same rock quarry, warehouse, and stadium exterior. Some of them are on the actual Toei lot and the others are locations that they presumably have some kind of agreement with to keep using. What made Hibiki different is that most of its action scenes were shot in forests and mountains outside of Tokyo. It's a lot more expensive to drag your crew and equipment out there than it is to go back to that one amphitheater in town again.

That's what I figured, but I didn't want to just assume.

So like how every 90s Sentai always seems to end up at those cliffs?

Toei films a lot of period dramas that they have sets built for and in constant working conditions. This explains why you see a lot of feudal Japan time travel plots in Sentai and to a lesser extent, Rider.

One of the things a lot of younger Western tokusatsu fans (late teens, early 20s) tend to gloss over are the messages producers and writers put in their show because they're just "wacky toy commercials". Reading Kanon in that way, I think, is very accurate and valid.

Daimajin Kanon, it's a series from a few years ago. Based on a trilogy of movies from the 70s or 60s and produced by Kamen Rider Hibiki's first producer.

All-time favorite? Probably Garo. Daimajin Kanon is easily top five, though.

And I'm not really mad. If anything, I'm impressed that he found a photo of Kanon from Ghost. I can literally think of no reason why anyone would have ever taken a screen capture of her; Captain Ghost is a more interesting and relevant character, and he hasn't been seen since maybe episode 10.

I think there were a couple of him in one of the movie previews from a few episodes ago. They didn't capture his distinct personality though

The boat is Captain Ghost. When it combines with Takeru's bike it's the the Iguana Ghostriker or whatever.

I don't miss wonky CG lizards but I'm really sad Ghost never rides his bike anymore. The first quarter or so of the show had a surprisingly high amount of proper bike action, so it sort of sucks they just forgot about it.

They also forgot about his ghostly abilities, like walking through walls and turning invisible.

The boat seems really random, however we heard rumors before the show started that Ghost would sail around the world to find the Eyecons so I like to think this shitty lizard boat is all what’s left over from that idea when they realized that finding enough settings in Japan / create sets to masquerade as other countries would blow the budget.

Exactly. Don't forget that time he did both of those things while riding a bike. I'm fine with fudging the rules of who can see ghosts for plot convenience, but you think it would come up in action scenes every now and then. I still remember how cool it was when the debut of Toucon Boost involved making it look like Takeru straight-up explodes.

Kuuga spoiled us all. It set a standard no Heisei series has even tried to live up to.

I'm not asking for much. Just show up to a fight scene on a bike every couple episodes, and then get off. You don't even have to do stunts for me to be happy.

Yeah, but Drive still had plenty of vehicle action. Granted once Booster Tridoron shows up it becomes bad CG vehicle action, but it's the thought that counts. Gou and Chase also ride their bikes around just to go places, which is all I ask for, really. If anything, Drive did a great job compared to most shows, consider yourself lucky.

I think Ghost might've been trying to rub in that we were back to Kamen Rider after taking a break with Drive, and it eventually just figured "okay, I think we've made our point" before forgetting about bikes harder than Decade. It's such a shame because I really like the whole "gothic unicorn" thing the Machine Ghostriker has going.

So I've been playing through Battride War and I noticed that almost every pre-W rider uses some form of cards to either transform or attack. Is this a thing, or am I crazy? If it was a thing, when did it start? Why did it stop?

No, it's not a thing. Only Decade, Ryuki, and Blade uses cards.

Huh, that's weird. I swear there were more than that. Maybe it's because I use Ryuki a lot in the game, and only recently unlocked Blade and Decade? I haven't seen any early Heisei shows, just Neo Heisei and Showa, so my knowledge is limited.

It might just be a game mechanic.
Also, on a very technical level, Den-O uses cards, too. However, they eventually remove the card swapping and just let him change forms by the Imagin swiping the pass (Rather than swapping which card is in the pass first).

I kinda disagree cause yes he is using a card but it is considered more of a ticket iirc for time teavel purposes hence the date stamp.
So far I only consider Ryuki Blade and Decade as card riders since they are more obvious and straight-forward.

Also he never swapped which card was in the pass to transform into different forms. Unless I'm going crazy and don't remember but I'm a pretty big Den-O fan so I feel confident in saying Ryoutarou only changed the ticket in the Rider Pass when they needed to go back in time. On a train. Because he uses his pass to go on the train. It just happens to resemble a card, is all.

It's definitely not - I thought about it more and those really are the only three that do it.

I kind of hope they bring cards back at some point, I like the idea.

I suspect they could be holding it off until after we get whatever series is after Ex-Aid, then Decade and Diend can access Neo-Complete forms.

Hmm...Hmm...if Decade become Fourze, maybe if he will has Fourze Modules Attack Ride Cards. Example: Attack Ride Rocket, Attack Ride Drill, Attack Ride Magic Hand, Attack Ride Chain Array, etc...

I am really want Bandai release Form Ride Cards and Final Form Ride Cards for OOO to Drive. Maybe will be like this:

- OOO become Toride Vendor
- Fourze become Power Dizer
- Wizard become WizarDragon
- Gaim become Hinawa Daidai DJ Gun

If you have to change about Kamen Rider Ghost? What would be?

I was disappointed with Kamen Rider Ghost because I don't understand the tone of show! I don't know if they tried to be horror show like Kiva or be a Ghostbusters meet Kamen Rider show. I think they were trying to be Ghostbusters meet Kamen Rider show since Ghost was less scary than Kiva but the villains are NOT Ghosts or Demons at all! They just human beings! Which let me down.

I would have change the tone of Kamen Rider Ghost and I will have Ganma being demons than human beings.

This shall was more confusing than Drive. I think producers kindly messed up the story with their executive meddling shenanigan!

Okay, I'm going to answer the question after this but I'd just like to clarify that Ghost was never supposed to be "spooky" in any way. It's not aping horror movies or anything, it's aping spirituality, and that's what the show is about.

As for what I'd change, I have the same two complaints as every year:
- More bike action dangit!
- Don't forget about the default form.

And as for what I'd change about Ghost in particular:
- Maybe flesh out Makoto a bit more?
- Tell us where the heck Takeru got his bike from, or why it transforms with him.
- On that note, give Necrom a bike. Who does he look like, Diend?
- Give Onari some more unambiguous moments of genuine helpfulness.
- Not much else?

Soooooo.....I'm gonna have to be that guy.....ANYONE HAVE A LINK TO THE KAMEN RIDER GHOST SOUNDTRACK?!! LOL

I'll mention change to the toyline as well.



- Switch Ryoma with Darwin, so that we have an orange-colored eyecon within the main 15, giving more color variety. Ryoma becomes additional eyecon like Pythagoras and Kamehameha.

- Replace Sanzo with Nightingale to add more female within the main 15. Sanzo becomes additional eyecon.

- Joan de Arc and Cleopatra would have their own real eyecon instead of just a nameless cameo eyecon in the movie. Perhaps also switch Tutankhamun with Cleopatra, making Cleopatra one of the main 15 while Tutankhamun is an additional eyecon. This, combined with Sanzo being replaced with Nightingale, would have given the three riders 1 female eyecon each.

- Galileo, aside from the DX one being available via lottery, should also have the CT and Gashapon version available.

- Da Vinci (ghost eyecon, not ganma eyecon) actually gets released somewhere. Perhaps the Ghost x Drive movie should have the Ganma Superior corrupting Da Vinci eyecon into a ganma eyecon he can use, and it returns into a ghost eyecon upon Da Vinci Ganma's defeat, with Takeru retrieving it. And it becomes a promo gift for the movie.

- Megauloader would actually detect all Eyecons and have unique phrase for each of them.

- Less stupid Grateful debut. Really, Takeru is throwing tantrum like a child, annoying everyone, then changed his mind in less than half of an episode, and gets rewarded with an upgrade? Seriously?

- Armor Ganma didn't die, and joined Art Ganma & Music Note Ganma on their journey instead.

- Mugen actually reviving him permanently, so they don't have to use a wish anymore and can use it for something else.

- Ganmaizers didn't get revived again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again........are they powered by Energizer batteries or something




And now that they released Shinsengumi, I really hope Tenkatoitsu also gets released somewhere.

And then Ganbarizing eyecon is the only one left, should also release that before the Ganbarizing system changes again......
