Same. I prefer to just focus on the “good” and not so much the “bad.” I like to think that everything I watch has at least one element of goodness.

Regarding Wizard I do regret not getting that Kamen Rider Beast figuarts when I had the chance. Sometimes Beast feels outta place from the show but other times I cannot help but like it.

I used to like Wizard more before I re-watched it because it was rather boring- it does help make it interesting when you don't know all the stories already, but it still has elements I enjoy. I was so happy that Haruto had a cameo in Kamen Rider Taisen and was so disappointed that it was so short. I really like him a lot. Also the designs and music are awesome! And Rinko is precious. <3

Wizard is a mix bag for me. It started off awesome then it got worst and it got better during the final act of the show. Haruto was a decent main hero and I enjoy Beast. Unlike Kiva, Drive and Ghost, at least I was able to finish it.

Has anyone tried the Excite subs for Ex-Aid yet? How do they compare to TV-Nihon's typical stuff? Trying to decide which subber I will be using.

It's the same "flavor" as Over-Time (i.e. no honorifics, no fancy fonts), but the translation itself seems about on the same level as TV-N's recent stuff (as in it's basically good). They'll probably improve as the show moves along, I'd imagine. Judging them by one episode is maybe a bit unfair.

It's basically them trying to make it sound more natural word-wise, which is why they sometimes let subtile parts of the original dialogue out (as in, the Japanese choice of words is a bit more "flowery"), but so far, I didn't find any glaring mistakes or anything.

From what I know and been told that Japan is less strict compare to the US. Shin Chan is a show market to kids in Japan and it has some pretty dirty jokes. Compare to kids shows in the US like Regular Show, Shin Chan is way more inappropriate.

Even anime market to kids in Japan like Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Go Lion (Voltron) still had make many edits to be approve for US kids networks. Even MMPR had to remove references to death from what I can remember.

Oh absolutely no actual mistakes (that my amateur skills would catch). I just feel in their attempt to make it sound natural they've neutered some of the "voice" of the dialogue. It's a little pedestrian is all. Like I said, once the show gets into the swing of things the subtitles probably will too.

"When it comes to games, I'm your guy!" is genuinely great though. That's just one little line but they really nailed it.

There are a few lines that gave me pause. There were a small few lines changed in meaning. (the kid didn't ask if he's dying, he asked if he was really sick) I think those are stylistic choices that people won't always agree with but as of the first episode I didn't notice any actual mistakes that would lead me against recommending them.

That said, their stylistic choice is something they need to keep in check so as to ensure it never messes with the actual plot of the show.

That "am I dying?" bit instantly jumped out to me in a bad way too. It was clearly a deliberate thing and not a mistranslation though. I imagine it was a matter of the translator not being able to think of the right way to phrase it and just kind of going with an option. Keep in mind they said they're going to aim for Wednesdays from here on out so it was almost certainly as simple as "we're rushing this one out so people can see it right away".

I actually have high hopes for these guys. Looking at it as being the first ever release from a group, and not as "discount Over-Time", it's really pretty impressive.

Oh, and translating "dai-henshin" as "transformation plus" is actually really cute in my book. It's properly video gamey sounding.

What if there was a new rider who is like Light Yagami/Kira from Death Note? In the new series Ex-Aid, Snipe is like Black Jack.

Someone who has that same sort of power, I don't think we've had that in Rider. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any character that could completely hide and singlehandedly cause mass chaos. The clsoest I can think of is Kanzaki Shiro from Ryuki? He grants the people the decks to see who's the strongest so Yui could survive. He is the reason why the conflict of that show happens, and he manipulates events, but the main enemies are Riders.

Well, seeing as Death Note is hugely popular, it would be a fairly bad idea to have a remote Rider as everyone will go "Oh, that's just a Kira rip off" and tune out.

Better to avoid those blockbuster plots!

What are the criticisms of Gaim again? I know Baron's unclear motivations was one of them. And I remember people dicussing how the show had fake depth of characters?

Baron wanted to entertain people and gain street cred because he found Invess Battles and breakdancing boring
Kouta's sister, promotional filler wasting episodes, the suits, people thinking it was TOO dark

Well, if you've got an hour or so...

But less detailed (keep in mind I don't actually agree with a lot of these anymore, but it's how I used to feel):

- Seriously, screw Kaito
- Sagara is even worse
- Character growth is there, but strangely stunted a lot of the time
- Characters can be kind of one-note sometimes
- It's kind of pretentious (though some of that is on the more... zealous fans)
- Poor Yoko
- Demushu and Redue are Saturday morning cartoon villains
- Everybody is kind of an idiot (except Mai)
- Ryoma is made to seem like some kind of puppet-master even though all these other idiots are extremely easy to manipulate
- It wasn't anywhere near as well planned out as it wants you to think it is

...and that's all I can think of right now? It's probably for the best. I think criticizing Gaim is punishable by law or something. :p

My biggest gripe with Gaim was the second episode having Kouta's sister say "If you're not helping others then it's not a REEEEEEEEAAL JOB" Comedians? Youtubers? Not REEEEAAAAL jobs. Game developers? Actors? False and homosexual jobs. It's not like Gaim is a tv show, y'know, part of the ENTERTAINMENT industry. It's like if the Dr. Strange movie would constantly treat their fans like 'an anime fan on prom night'

2. The real problem is that it's a "great power, great responsibility" speech that comes after Kouta gave one to himself in episode 2, and it was stupid of the show to think it needed another one.

3. She's not saying you have to put on a suit and go work at McDonalds. She's saying Kouta should maybe not treat the shady, gambling-esque, underground "sport" of the Inves Game as a stable source of income.

4. Akira is a great supporting character and I'm sure she would totally support Kouta's secret dream to become an actor and star in a superhero Tokusatsu show (or whatever).

I think that scene was the earliest thing I ever disagreed with the rest of the fandom on about Gaim (though ironically I'm the one with the positive outlook here). It's got problems, but a lot of people seemed to miss the point of it completely, which is understandable, given how poorly executed it is.

Thing is, I'm a gal who looks at the execution, not the concept. If you have a good message but fuck up the delivery of that message, you get 'REEEEEEEEEEAL JOOOOOOOOBS'. Now, had she said something like "I'm not taking that money, It's gambling money, and *insert gambling is wrong speech*" then it'd be completely fine, especially because gambling is illegal in Japan iirc, so not only does the message come across less as being a fucking moron, but it actually makes a better point

Actually, I think that is exactly what she said to start the speech. But don't get me wrong, it's a dumb scene, and I totally agree the execution is crap, but I still think a chunk of the fandom misunderstood the actual words being said, and not just the words the script was going for.

If Gaim did a sequel, what if they made an "exodus" driver?

For the sengoku drivers, they made the lockseeds look like sliced fruit.

The genesis drivers, they made the energy lockseeds look like soda/juice/liquid.

If an exodus driver was made with a new type of lockseed, they make'em look like jello/fruit jelly.

What is your favorite driver noise? Personally, I can't decide, but I'm loving Ex-Aid's.

I love Den-O's various jingles but the Faiz Driver's voice is ~smooth~. I couldn't really pick a favorite though. They're all great.

I'd never, ever, ever be able to pick just one (it'd probably be easier for me to list sounds I don't like), but some of my favorites are, in no particular order...

Necrom in the Ghost Driver
Hyper Cast Off
Mach Deadheat's loop and music
Lots of the Drive Driver music, especially Formula, Tridoron, Next, and Special's main riffs and loops
... and almost everything in the Gashats, but especially "GA-SHYAT-TO", Action Gamer LV2, Robots Action Gamer LV3, and Bakusou Bike's LV3 sound.

Mega Ulorder would be my favorite if it could say more than like five words. Alas.

The Gaim sounds are my favorite, even if the actual jingles don't come from the belts themselves.

edit: or wait are we talking specific sounds? Probably like...man, that's pretty tough. I dunno. Right off the top of my head...Ghost Driver's OOO jingle? One of many favorites I suppose.

EX-Aid's "Rettsu gēmu! Metcha gēmu! Mutcha gēmu! Watcha nēmu? I'M A KAMEN RIDER!" is drugs. The way it shifts gears from histrionic to ultra smooth is so 90's arcade games, I could shit.

Bsically, the more babbling and music they play, the better. The scene in Gaim where they all henshin at once - the cacophony of their combined drivers was hilarious.
