Hidden references in Power Rangers
So, at some point in the last 20 years the writers in charge of each season must have realized that it's not just 6 year olds that watch their show. While watching SPD the other day, I caught two references that no normal kid is going to get:
Quote: "So you're using Bonetti's defense". Said by: Evil monster of the week to old guardian of the darkness in "Abandoned". Sounds like: "Ah, I see you are using Bonetti's Defense". Said by: Inigo Montoya to the Man in Black From: The Princess Bride Context: Rocco Bonetti was a famous 16th century swordsman (Also, my last name is Bonetti so I find this really awesome) Quote: "All work and no play makes Skye a dull boy" Said by: Jack to Skye Sounds like: "All work and no play makes JACK a dull boy" From: Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" What makes this awesome: No kid is going to know this line from an R rated movie that was made well before their time. Going further, Ranger Jack says the line about Skye while in "The Shining" Jack Nicholoson says it about himself. Better yet, this is the episode where Skye apparently goes just a little bit crazy (mainly cause he body switched with an alien". So, has anyone else picked up on "pop culture" references (intentional or not) in any of the Power Ranger series? |
I have always suspected whoever slipped the line "We're here to toss your salad" into Turbo knew EXACTLY what they were implying.
