hard to watch a show without buying toys
im on a limited budget and everytime i watch a kamen rider series or sentai series, it's difficult for me to watch a show without buying toys because that's what the purpose of it is, im just wondering though, is it hard to watch a show without buying toys?

When you're not the richest person, it's pretty easy to not go out and buy everything. Although the hardest for me is usually the mecha, because they are the toys that I usually want hella bad.

I have purposefully avoided some shows because I know how addictive this hobby can be. ( Ruyki is a prime example. Watched 1 episode and changed my mind )
The role play and mecha are usually pretty easy for me to avoid. But s.h.figuarts are another story....2 episodes in to kyoryuger and I'm ready dying to get figures of them. And I have a long wait. It goes the other way too. I won't watch some shows because there are no figuarts for me to buy. ( Gekiranger is a prime example of that ) |
For me it's usually pretty easy to avoid certain things such as Figuarts and other action figures as there is little playability with those (for me at least). I found myself usually just sticking the figures I had into one pose and never looked at them again.
My Achilles' heel lies in Kamen Rider belts. ESPECIALLY if they have a collectible gimmick (i.e. OOO medals, Fourze switches, Wizard rings). I don't know why but it sparks the "I gotta have em all!" desire in me. So to answer your question: it depends. If it's Kamen Rider belts: most definitely yes (I have all main Hesei era Rider belts with the exception of Kuuga and Agito belts due to the ridonkulous prices they fetch). Other shows such as Super Sentai I find easier to resist (with the exception of Kyoryuger). |
It's not always easy to resist buying toys but it's possible for me. I can't afford to be a completist so the only show that I went nuts over was Gokaiger, and even then I only managed to collect both henshin devices, both main mecha, Gao Lion, and some Ranger Keys.
I like Figuarts but my real weakness is the DX stuff, particularly Super Sentai henshin devices, mecha and Kamen Rider belts. Even if I don't do anything but leave them displayed, I still love them. |
When I was a kid in the 80's there weren't toylines around when the first tokusatsu shows aired in my country. I watch most of the shows now primarily for the nostalgia factor, I almost never think about it, except when the show throw you toys directly in the face, like the stuffed animal counterparts of the zords in Zyuranger, then I remember it exists.

i remember when i watched go-onger, i was so hooked on it that i wanted to buy everything, i almost did accept for go-phone,shift changer, cowl laster and bridge axe set and i played with all the toys including the mechas along with the go-onger episodes at the same time, it was so much fun but when i was realized how much i spent, i got crushed, so i had to sell everything but it was worth it.
now im just limiting to buy the sixth ranger stuff just the changer and the weapon, i have been playing my toys with the show since gekiranger, accept for shinkenger, i liked shinkengold's fighting style, i got depressed not buying them but i got through shinkenger without the toys. i watch kr, i havent bought anything since w with accel's gear, but i managed to get through it because with the secondary riders i cant buy everything at one time because i dont want to spend more money for the power ups with beast, meteor, with birth's stuff i was going to get it, but the belt suck so it was a reason for everything. |
I think my desiring of mechas comes from viewing Den-O's recent purchases too much :lol Other then that, it's pretty much only ranger keys for that series, and to a degree the morphers.
