Anyone here not into Ultraman as much as they hoped?
Is there anyone here who would love to be an Ultraman fan, but for some reason, have trouble getting into the shows? I mean, I watched UltraSeven as a kid, enjoyed it, imported some of the R2s a few years back and could not really get into them. Then I liked Ultraman Tiga when I first got the DVDs, but I tried to start rewatching the show a few days ago and could not get out of the first few episodes. I haven't even been able to fully sit through a different series. I guess Ultraman just isn't for me no matter how much I try to really get into the series.

Yo.
I've seen a few episodes of the original series and I thought they were really cool. The monster designs are neat, the miniature work is fantastic (I'm a sucker for good miniature work), and the plots are pretty good, too. But for some reason I am extremely apathetic about watching any more of it. I actually think it's Ultraman himself. His fights are just so boring - the pacing is really slow and it's mostly just simple wrestling. Compared to all the other tokusatsu I've seen the actual hero action is just so dull. |
Ultraman has always been a series I wished to get into, but never could. The fights were kinda boring (As Switchblade put, they're usually just wrestling).
That may not be much since it's only one complaint, but remember. I could never get into it because I had no interest in seeing the action. So characters never really grew on me, the story hadn't hit it's stride, and monsters with better designs haven't shown up. I guess Kamen Rider and Super Sentai/Power Rangers kinda spoiled me, action-wise. (It's kind of weird, since I'm an avid Godzilla fan, and Godzilla makes plenty of use of wrestling moves...) |
I was reluctant to get into Kamen Rider at first. I was hooked by the third episode of Kamen Rider W. The only Ultraman I ever watched was Kamen Rider vs. Ultraman. So, in other words, no.

I've seen a few episodes of Ultraman and Ultraman Tiga, and that's about it. Never got into the whole franchise, as I'm more into Toei stuff.

You guys are a bunch of loonies... it's such a fun series to watch... as long as you know what you're getting yourself into.
