Toei's Kyoto Studios burned down :-(

UP IN SMOKE: Just a couple of hours ago, a massive fire at Toei Studios Kyoto completely destroyed Studio (Soundstage) No. 1. The cause, a faulty electrical outlet. The remaining soundstages are unscathed. All told, 50 years of movie history, unfortunately, went with the historic soundstage. (Thanks to Jason Gray and Shota Kasumi of Toei Studios Kyoto for the news and photo.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Toei's Kyoto Studios is where the company shoots their period films and samurai adventures, because the city was not bombed by Allied Forces during WW2. All of the Modern films (including Superhero and other Tokusatsu) were shot in Tokyo. Although, much of Kinji Fukasaku's MESSAGE FROM SPACE (1978) was shot at the Kyoto Studios.

The silver lining

Damn, all of the studio destroyed by a faulty electrical outlet? :( I thought they'd have better fire alarm system that would've prevented such a disaster from happening. At least no one was hurt in the fire.

That's horrible, and a real shame to lose such a rich history of movie collections.

Hopefully no one was injured in the fire. Because sad as it is to lose that history, everything destroyed can be replaced. Hopefully they'll rebuild the studio better then it was before.
