Garo The One Who Shines in the Darkness 17 - Tousei
O-T has the script up early, so why wait to start the thread?
This was an odd episode. In some ways it's another clip show, but at the same time it fills in a lot of what was going on behind the scenes that the heroes were unaware of. It's interesting to see this angle, especially the way it fleshes out Enhou's spotlight episodes. I should rewatch those at some point now that I know what was behind all of the odd, disjointed cinematography (I already caught the double water ring on the bar, and apparently there's an obvious visual cue about Tousei in there, too). The other half of the episode was good, too. I'm not sure we needed the characters to be public enemies again, but I don't think the show will do much with that since they already devoted several episodes to it the first time. The clean-up of the Kaneshiro family was brutal - if there was any hope for saving Enhou after all of this I think it's gone now; you don't come back from murdering and eating kids. Next week looks pretty epic. An all-out fight between Knights and Horrors and it looks like Tousei may get his chance to turn Ryuga after all. I'm loving how intense this show is getting. |
Someone give me the name of the guy behind the cinematography for episode 4. He deserves some credit. That episode was shot in such a way that it conveyed that Endou was losing track of herself as well as the passage of time. So when episode 4 had a giant red flag with the word "villain" written in neon lights over Tousei's head we all totally missed it thinking it was just Endou's mind playing tricks on her. BRAVO Garo! Stuff like this is why you're my favorite toku.
Anyways, the first half of 17 explains how Tousei fits into the plot through a half clip show format while adding in the missing bits. It's very well done. The second half is Tousei killing his family...including the children. It's all set up for the next episode. Next Time: We're gonna need a bigger effects budget... Don't forget to get Sansei. :p |
ANother god damned clip show? WTF? Did the head writer from Gundam SEED Destiny take over the show? What the hell man?! Oh wait, it is only 60% clip show. That is EVEN WORSE!!! We just had a clip show two episodes ago, what the!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
With that said, this was a waste of an episode. There was no reason this had to be a partial clip show. NO REASON AT ALL!! Episode 16 was great, it had a great ending, but then we get this. UGH!!!!! |

I don't know but I keep seeing you as that "I will hate this show no matter what they improve!" guy with this show. |

Clip show or not, this episode was awesome, it clarifies some foreshadowing and visual cues in the earlier episodes and the kaneshiro massacre was great (in a horrifying way). |
I thought the clip elements added a lot to it. It wasn't exactly an ENTIRE clip episode, so seeing things from a different perspective was pretty interesting.

The show was on a roll until 17. Episodes 8-10 and 12-16 (sans 15) were fantastic episodes and then pull Destiny syndrome. Quote:
And clip shows are NOT awesome episodes. They are lazy and annoying for a weekly series, especially one that is 25 episodes. I can understand a clip show at episode 200, but NOT episode 15. |
I skipped the first clip show so this episode don't bother me at all, instead it's highly informative and answered many of the questions. I was pretty blindsided by Tousei's reveal as the main villain so this clip show is much needed to explain how he did everything leading up to 17.
