Ultraman in Guinness Book of World Records
 

So I'm not an Ultraman guy, but this is pretty cool news.

Most number of spinoffs huh... I was talking with a friend about this given Sentai and Rider has been around for about as long, and his logic is that spinoff implies they're all connected, while things like Sentai are more like... a separate entity sharing the same name. I dunno, semantics.

Point is, Ultraman got acknowledged for being around for so long and that's pretty cool for you Ultrafans. To be in the same book as Jason David Frank is an honor.

That's pretty neat! I never thought it'd be a Toku to get that world record.

I may not be the biggest Ultra fan, but I always found the warrior of light to be fascinating.

Kamen Rider is five years younger (EDIT: THERE. FIXED.) than Ultraman and the Heisei era's trend of pumping out a series yearly hasn't made up for its franchise's gaps in production. Going by number of television shows alone without even considering the "spinoffs" bit, Ultraman beats it in number of series by two, and will still beat it by one when Gaim premieres.

With Super Sentai never having taken a break, it should have beaten Ultraman if the record was for number of seasons or series or episodes... but then Super Sentai would lose in an overall count to something like Guiding Light. There may be a narrower category in the Guinness World Records that Super Sentai is already winning, who knows.

However they chose to count spin-offs for this record, the fact that Rider and Sentai rarely employ actual continuity outside of movies has to be the contributing factor. Otherwise how is humanity ever surprised by evil forces invading Japan when it's happened every year since 1975?! :lol One last thing, a fact that Henshin Justice carries in their article which JEFusion did not, the record isn't actually "new" - Ultraman's held it since 2001. Ginga's airing simply bumps the count up by one more.

Unrelated - what the hell is this "Kanegon" series from 2008?!

I can't edit posts on a 3DS but suffice to say I know that. :lol I worded the post the wrong way and meant that Kamen Rider started five years later, of course.

It's all relative. I've had arguments with Whovians over which show has more history. And of course the WWE has long claimed that Monday Night Raw is the longest running weekly television series of all time.
