an otaku has an obssessive interest and they are considered asocial and live in a fantasy world. it is not a good thing. it like being called a american redneck

I thought Otaku meant fan of whatever it is if its from Japan? Be it Toku, Anime, or Manga.

1- Im nowhere near that, and unless you act crazy, I dont think anyone will think you are Otaku.

2- Rednecks arent like that, at least around me. I live in the south. (How many times have I said this?) But, seriously, the term redneck isnt as bad as it used to be. Im not sure what point Im trying to make here, but I just wanted to say not all rednecks are like that now.

Sure but otaku can be used in many contexts, you can be a military otaku and so on.

Ultimately why does that affect you? If you are not an obsessive person, why would you allow other people opinions keep you away from something you enjoy?

I wouldn't consider redneck and being really into a show the same thing. Otaku as Algo said can be used in different context's, so really I wouldn't be too considered. Besides, why do you care what people think of you because of one thing you like?
