Will Smith as Ultraman in a US Ultraman Movie?
 

This is one of those news stories that makes you stop, stare at the screen for a few minutes, maybe grab a snack, and come back to it only to realize that the story is still there.

After 16 years of legal battles, the company Chaiyo (which many believe stole and forged documents to steal the rights to Ultraman) has beaten Tsuburaya (the original creators of Ultraman) in all courts, paving the way for Chaiyo to move forward with whatever Ultraman projects they'd like. And one of them appears to be a US movie for Ultraman.

According to Nuke The Fridge, Sompote Saengduenchai is in talks to create an Ultraman movie, very similar in style to the blockbuster Pacific Rim, and wants Will Smith to play the lead role as Ultraman.

Their estimated target-release would be in 2016.

We don't need another "will smith is awesome" movie. We need someone unknown who can act.

That will never happen. Will Smiths ego is too damn large to have his face covered and his big ass mouth not heard when he is in Ultraman mode.

I know nothing about this legal battle , but all that above sounds really sketchy and i wouldn't support such a project if that were true.

Ultraman is cool and all, but WILL SMITH?! Why does HE need to play a Toku Icon?
Aren't there other more qualified people? People that didn't crash land on a mutant future planet Earth with their son in a recent flop?
