Old/New School Kamen Rider Themes
 

I was listening to my playlist of KR theme songs and as I was grooving to Kamen Rider Black RX (21 Century Version) I had a thought. I wanted to post it in the What Are You Watching thread but I didn't want to derail it to hard, so here it is.

I miss Old School Kamen Rider songs, old school Sentai songs to now that it comes to me. Things like this.

With great instrumentals and amazing lyrics. I'm not saying all new songs suck. I'm old but not that old. The older songs just have that old school sixties Japan feel you know what I mean? Like the original Mobile Suit Gundam theme. And I was hoping Gaim would get that treatment to, and it kind of did. The opening has that old school feel while blending the new in to. And I hope it's a treand that continues.

That.....was awesome! I love when new stuff sounds old and vice versa.

It's one of my favorites to listen to. The violin at the start, the chorus, it all just works.

Tbh, I actually hadn't heard the RX theme before. Went and listened to the original first. And then this updated one.

The beginning part actually reminded me a little bit of Legend of Zelda.

I've always liked the Black RX theme, but I don't hold it because it's an older theme. It's just a good theme. *Shrugs*
Though if you want a theme that shows it's age while still being pretty neat, look no further than Amazon's.

Not every theme will be a Blade Elements, though. Sometimes you end up with whatever the hell Kuuga's theme was supposed to be.

Oh man, this reminds me of the Super Sentai theme mixtape I made back in middle school.

I listened to that CD, like, every fucking day. In the dark days of the early internet, when the only reliable media downloads you could find were MP3s via Napster, these themes were my only consistent connection to tokusatsu. I clung to them for dear life.

My mix was made of my favorites of the 90s: Jetman, Dairanger, Kakuranger, Megaranger, Gingaman, and GoGoV.

That said, even that era had some stinkers. Zyuranger, Ohranger, and Carranger all have pretty lame OPs.

Still, it's been a loooong time since we've had any Sentai themes as memorable as the hits on my good old mix. And they've completely dropped the brassy, funky, 60s/70s spy vibe that was prevalent even through the 90s, which is super unfortunate.

Recent Kamen Rider has a slightly higher ratio of memorable:lame themes, I find.

Personally, I love the old themes from the 70s era Rider shows. They're not wildly diverse, but most of them are a lot more memorable than many of the Heisei era themes.

For my money, though, Black has the single greatest soundtrack in the franchise. Opening, ending, incidental tracks, insert songs... all of them are freaking great.

Perfection?

I've listened to Kuuga's theme on so many occasions it's ridiculous.
Someone needs to break it down and explain to me why that shit is considered "Good."

Well I play trumpet and am in band and I love love love love love x a billion the Hibiki song, the original theme, especially the trumpet part. Just no words but just epic. Now the gaim one has some olderish feel with the drms at the beginning but then feels like tribe music. Now the catchy them songs like Faiz's are cool since there is a repetitive them. Kivas was good with the violin part. Den-O was pretty energetic. Now I've listened to the Black song and that's a pretty good song it repeated but is good, I just can't forget the KAMEEEEN RIDE BLACK!!!
