Ryuki/Gaim comparisons for fun.
 

We know that one of the main influences behind this show was Kamen Rider Ryuki, so I thought it'd be interesting to discuss character comparisons.


Shinji/Kouta: Pretty obvious. Main characters, idealists, technical pacifists, wants to use their powers to protect others.

Ren/Kaito: Another one that's obvious. Both are secondary Riders, both are obsessed with obtaining more power (for different reasons, obviously), brooding badasses with longcoats, and both are themed after European Knights.

Micchy/Kitaoka: I can see comparisons between these two, but they do differ quite a bit still. Both are primarily green-colored, gun-toting Riders. Both are strategists and both don't shy away from being manipulative and taking advantage of a situation. Micchy (at least for now) is more heroic than Kitaoka though.

I know that it's commonly been stated that Zangetsu is an Ouja expy, but I feel like the title of "Gaim's Ouja" belongs to Sigurd, with a hint of Kamen Rider Tiger. Sigurd has, at least from the perspective of the heroes, a twisted sense of what it means to be a 'hero' but he also has the bloodlust that Ouja has as well that contrasts with Kouta's own want to have the Riders band together.

Bravo, to me, seems like a more happy-go-lucky Ouja. He loves the thrill of fighting but isn't necessarily as psychotic about it. For him, it's more about the passion of it.

I think most of the connections between the two seasons are tenuous at best. Yeah you can draw some similarities, but there's really not much of anything substantial to it and I honestly kinda wish people would drop the comparison at this point. Aside from being a somewhat darker season with a larger than normal cast of riders the only other real comparison that can be made is between the mirror world and helheim, and even that isn't a really solid connection.

I LOVE Ryuki, and so far I am loving Gaim, not for any similarities between the two, but of it's own merits and I think trying to make such direct comparisons is doing the show a bit of a disservice.

Well, I'm only comparing solely because the inspiration behind this show was apparently Ryuki so I wanted to see where it shows.

But Ryuki is my favorite season, and Gaim is shaping up to be just as good, if not, better but obviously Gaim is quite different as well. I only wanted to compare characters however.
