Tokkyuger DX Tokkyu Oh, $100?! Really?
Hello-
I'm new to the Ranger Boards, but have been a Ranger fan for some years. With the help of some fellow board members I've been closing the gaps on my Megazord collection all the while keeping an eye out on what's coming down the pike... I've traded in my Zord-builder robots (sorry these aren't for me) for the Japanese releases recently getting my hands on Shinkenoh, Gokiaoh and Kyoryujin. So naturally I was thrilled to hear about a new train themed Sentai series... Here's my problem... I think Tokku Oh looks very fun, however the pictures and video reviews I've seen in no way justify a $100+ price tag, and that price is before shipping... My Kyoryujin was a total of $86 and that was with shipping and that robot's got all kinds of stuff going on... I mean the size and lack of any real gimmick (sounds or lights), the rather bland design with a very so-so tranformation and gimpy sword? Am I the only one who thinks this? I'll eventually get him used or on sale, but I can't justify dropping between $100 and $135 on this thing... |
Where are you looking that he's $100 before shipping? Retail he's 5000 yen or so which is equal to about $50-60 depending on where you are. Maybe you're not looking in the right place for the best price.
|
Yeah, sounds like eBay or BBTS? You're get is much cheaper buying directly from Japan. They're pretty common on Mandarake for 4000-5000Y.
|
I've seen one on Manddarake just in the last 24 hours that's 5000 yen (about $50 USD). That $100 thing is an exaggerated price.
And it's ToQ Oh/ToQger. |

If you go to multiple sites then compare prices you might be able to find a ToQ-Oh pretty cheap, though since I'm more into Rider, I go on Amazon to find belts, but haven't done it with mecha, but the same method should work. |
Thanks for the help. I'll be sure to check those out.

i used to get stung before i found reliable places. It may be you dont get stuff on day of release but if youre prepared to wait a few days or a week you can normally grab stuff on mandarake for about RRP in Japan. I NEVER trust sellers on ebay when it comes to recent releases, they jack up the prices constantly.
Because I live in a good country for exchange rate I only paid about £45-50 for Toq oh. Probably couldve got it cheaper |
At retail, he's slightly cheaper than Kyoryujin, so while that's admittedly still very expensive it's nowhere near the $100 price tag you've been seeing. I got mine from Mandarake at a price I thought was good.
Also another thing to note is that I don't think most photos and video reviews do this guy justice. Watching him online and actually having him in hand are two totally different things, and having him personally I can say that his immense play value becomes apparent. Quote:
http://i.imgur.com/q4bDJm1l.jpg Admittedly many of these are American, but besides the Dino Megazord, they all share molds with their BoJ relese. I'm personally impressed they managed to balance the need for the trains to be small enough to fit in the Changer and yet large enough to form a standard-sized robot. That's actually a bit of an engineering feat, in my opinion. Quote:
The trains are great on their own and they form a pretty decent robot as well. I feel this is one toy where nothing major was compromised in keeping both component and mecha forms intact. Just my opinion anyway. http://i.imgur.com/CV2jUkll.jpg Quote:

Plus, I actually really like the transformation by itself. It feels balanced, where all 5 parts play a role instead of having a dominating Red component, or a 4 limbs and 1 torso transformation. If anything, it's a unique design. Also it's fun to hook all trains up before standing it up; reminds me of the original Megazord's tank mode. Quote:
So all in all, not saying you should run out and spend $100-$135 on it. :D That's a rip-off, and I won't deny the retail price itself, while not as high as $100, is still very expensive. Still, I just wanted to say that it's actually a lot nicer in hand and is quite unassuming until you have it so it may be worth considering. :) http://i.imgur.com/PYoqmUCl.jpg |
Comicguy89- I like your thoughts and I was looking at past mecha through rose colored glasses or something. And thanks for that size comparison shot, not a lot of reviewers had that...
Don't get me wrong, this is definitely on my list to pick up. Being a robot/train fan this is a win/win. I was just going off of what I can only guess were mediocre reviews and sticker shock from ebay. And I'm sorry I'm not 100% up on the Japanese name for these. I'm coming off a lot of years thinking everything is a Megazord, and I know that pisses the purists off... And I need that damn Astro Megazord too, but I can't find the thing anywhere... |
