Lack of nonmorphed action in later seasons
At the time of writing this, I'm in the middle of watching Kakuranger. One of the things I've noticed is that they do quite a bit of action outside of their suits compared to more recent seasons. Not them fighting against an enemy, but they're attack more often before they have a chance to transform. Why don't they do stuff like this any more? Actor safety? Cutting down on violence? Just something I'm curious about.

Man, I loved the unmorphed scenes in Kakuranger. Helps you feel like they're real martial artists~
Anyway, the easy answer to this question is to sell toys (They don't sell unmorphed actor toys, after all :p) But I think it's to let them get away with larger stunts and action pieces. Unmorphed, all the actors can do are flip and throw punches and kicks. Morphed, they can bust out the weapons, the enemies can throw bigger attacks (Since it's easier to believe the ranger in suit can survive such an explosion now), they can get to the special attacks (Which usually just relies on CG rather than on screen acting), and they don't have to re-shoot an entire fight scene if an actor flubs a line~ |
Ya know, I should be angry that they cut out most of the unmorphed actions scenes to promote toys, but I'm more angry at the fact that I didn't realize that first. Its always toys. Funny thing is, I heard that action figure don't even sell all that well. Meaning they cut out cool action scenes to promote toys nobody wants to buy. I'm not sure what to say about that.

That's just the easy answer, since when you ask something about Sentai, the entire planet will scream "TO SELL TOYS" :lol
But in reality, I just think it's because they want to make the action scenes bigger, and it's a lot easier to send an man in a fully covered suit flying on wires after blowing a brick of C4 behind them than it is an actor~ |

I considered bringing up the actors being idols and the like, but I didn't because everyone will bring up something like "UMMM, EXCUSE YOU MATRIX! Tochida Mikeru is a well known martial Artist!" or something :lol

I also heard that there's some sort of agreement regarding "rules" for creating Sentai to make it easier to adapt into Power Rangers...could having less unmorphed fight scenes be one of them?
