Your Thoughts About Go Onger without Spoiling?
Hi guys. I just finished episode 13 and Go Onger is difficult to keep watching. It's a shame because it's visually appealing and I love the cast especially Ren. Ren <3!
It's just that.. it's too childish. There's absolutely no tension and doesn't seem to have any storyline. It's also like this with Kakuranger but Kakuranger started being good in the later half of the season. I want to know if it's worth to keep watching this season. I don't wanna give up on it because it has 3 amazing characters and 2 likable ones. Does it get serious in later episodes? I know there will be 2 additional rangers later on. Are they serious characters? |
They are more serious initially but ultimately you are watching a comedy Sentai series. It has a plot and moments of tension but I'm not sure it'll ever be what you're looking for.

The additional rangers are sort of a waste. There is an interesting initial dynamic between them and the main five but I felt like it never really went anywhere. Also I always thought it wasted one of my favorite Kamen Rider actors.
The show does have its moments of intensity but because the cast is...so bad, it's hard to take those moments as serious as it wants you to. I think there was a fun premise at the start but that clearly goes away after a couple of episodes. It's a comedy show but that doesn't mean it has to lack in vital areas. |
I couldn't get into Go-onger I'm not a fan of the cars being alive and having those eyes on the mechs. It also didn't help that I was coming off the high from Gekiranger.

I really like Go-Onger, but if you can't get into to it because it isn't serious enough, there's really no reason to stick around.
The best I can tell you is it's all very self-aware. The whole point of the Go-On Wings showing up is basically to point out how completely insane and stupid the Go-Ongers are as heroes, and then get frustrated when they inevitably save the day over and over again anyway. I think it's hilarious, and nevertheless manages to get a little bit of genuine drama here and there anyway, but if it isn't your style, it won't do anything to win you over. You're probably better off watching another Sentai in that case. Personally I'd recommend Go-Busters if you haven't seen it, even once the "retool" stuff happens it maintains a pretty serious edge, despite lots of comic relief. |
I could not get into it. I didn't like the characters and story.

I enjoyed it, it was interesting enough and it had a solid story in my eyes. The Go-On Wings are really cool, I liked the dynamic the whole team had once they entered the fray. As Fish Sandwich said, they add a mature perspective to show how silly the whole situation is. On the whole, I feel like it is one of those seasons where the interplay between the heroes is better than the story itself. My suggestion is lower your expectations, watch a few more episodes, maybe even wait until Go-On Wings show up, and then make your final decision. Hope that helps.

I'm not finished with it, but I am really liking it.
As stated before, it's self aware that it's ridiculous and overblown, but self-aware humor shows tend to be good ie; Abaranger and Carranger and it's pretty funny, but I feel there's themes like growing up and learning through out the show. It's a pretty underrated show IMO. |
