Aside from PR, what else has been americanized ?
This is probably a dumb question to most here but i'd really love to know what other series have gotten the american threatment over the years aside from the power rangers franchise ?
Offcourse i know about the 90's VR troopers, beetleborgs and masked rider but that's were i draw a blanc...it seems after those shows stopped only power rangers kept going, i never saw another american version of masked rider or otherwise again, is this true or have i been missing a lot ? It would seem odd that only that 1 masked rider series existed in the us, i have a feeling there are more and i just don't know about them lol. So, if anyone wants to educate me, please do since i really want to get back int othis hobby again but after not really following this stuff closely since childhood and power rangers being the only thing still getting attention on tv over here...i must be missing stuff...right ?? By americanized, i mean just as in PR, using american actors and original storylines, just using footage and suits but other than that be it's own entity. |
You haven't missed too much, but I'll catch you up. Around the same time as Power Rangers, the show "Denkou Choujin Gridman" was adapted into "Super Hero Samurai Syber Squad". In 2009 the Kamen Rider series "Kamen Rider Ryuki" was adapted into "Kamen Rider Dragon Knight". The Ultraman series was adapted in a way too. Two original shows were produced in the early 90's, and the series "Ultraman Tiga" was dubbed straight up into a show of the same name.

Ok wow thanks, i'm kinda surprised that that's it...i was secretly hoping every kamen rider series had gotten the masked rider makeover ala the PR series updating every season and i just missed them but apparently not then.
But oh man you have awakened some deep memories by reminding me of that super cyber samurai thingy..can't believe how i managed to forget that one since i watched it every day back in the day even tho i never really liked it that much but hey , i was a kid and wanted to watch anything that even remotly resembled my beloved rangers :D Infact, watching the intro again on youtube somehow made me think of 2 other utterly craptastic series...Tatooed Teenage Alien Fighters From Beverley Hills ...&....Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog ....i have no idea of these things had japanese roots or not but oh boy...even as the gullible kid i was, i always LOL'd at what a petty attempt to rip of the rangers popularity that was, just watching the intro's again on youtube made me cringe. |
well Teenage Tattooed Blah Blah was a straight up rip off. Mystic Knights was actually a Saban show like Beetleborgs and VR Troopers, but that was all done with no Japanese footage. It was one of (if not only) attempts at a series with no re-dubbed footage and it got a season and a half i believe. As far as 90's live action superhero shows go, it wasn't too bad IMO. yeah it was a tad cheesy, but so was MMPR looking back

Oh Tattooed teenage alien fighters ...
I would watch anything involving spandex wearing heroes fighting monsters as a kid and this show proved it. |
