Sentai Mecha Discussion: Liveman
Live Robo
https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...20130121191051 https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...20130113181924 https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net...20130113181557 https://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net...20130113181944 The first animal theme mecha and the first that I think has a clear cut theme between all the components that isn't just them being vehicles. I think it's alright for the most part. I would of like a bit more elements of Jet Falcon to show up in the front since he's basically just the upper legs and the back. The colour combination is fine enough as it is though between the blue legs and the yellow torso with black to help break things up a bit. Details like the lion head for the chest and the cannons on the back are neat. The head is really the biggest problem I have. There's just a bit too many things going on. The huge V-fin it has is pretty nice but the 3 major colours it has, red, black and yellow really don't balance each other out very well. The black face with silver mouth piece also doesn't really look that good and the head is also so strangely oval shaped. Live Boxer https://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net...20130917121446 http://supersentai.com/database/1988...iveboxer01.jpg Live Boxer kinda follows this theme that the previous two secondary mechas had, that being that they were alot more boxy than the main mecha. Here though, I think that design theme finally works mostly thanks to the chest. It adds just that extra bit of definition to the torso which makes it not so incredible flat, like both Titan Boy and Galaxy Robo. This helps give Live Boxer a more powerhouse look than Live Robo which I think was the intent. Stuff like having the rhino and bull heads as feet or the litte hints of green and black on the head are pretty nice. Even some of the little aeshetic bits like how both Bison Liner and Sai Fire are more vehicular like than the mecha of the main team go a long way of setting this guy apart from Live Robo. Super Live Robo http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/...20131231180435 The first mecha formed from combining two mechas. This is one nice looking combination. Love how almost all the design elements of both mechas are shown here. I quite like the bull and rhino heads as shoulders as well as how Live Boxer's chest becomes the new waist piece. Even the head I think is a great improvement over Live Robo's head. The shape is alot nicer and the colours are better thanks to having less yellow and black, instead having more red and silver. As the first multi mecha combination, I think this is a pretty good first attempt. Next week, Turboranger |
Live Robo is an acceptable Mecha in the long run, and I don't fully agree with the near-universal disdain for Live Boxer, cause everything works except for the boxy appearance. Super Live Robo is the type you feel could've gotten more done to advertise, but remains a staple in the franchise. It has appeared in Gokaiger and Zyuohger and still has significant impact. It's a shame they didn't explore the possibilities even further, like give the combination more attacks. More importantly, I've heard that this wasn't necessarily intended, but Bandai made the toys capable of merging, and Toei went along with it. Is there any truth to this?

Live Boxer looks terrible to me in toy form and even more horrible in combination form even if it's the first one to combine to humanoid robos. It felt really force and I can see that they just want to introduce a new mecha to sell mid season because Live robo was meant to be a stand alone robot alone. It reminds me of a lot of mecha from the recent years that use filler mecha pieces as platform shoes. However, I do like live robo especially the lion Zord. It got the most details, but too bad we don't see the same amount of articulations in toy forms.

Super Live Robo doesn't work for me. The head looks too big, the shoulders feel...Off, and the huge boxes for feet look ugly. I'm glad they tried to combine the robots, but it's just lackluster.
The other two are fine. |
Super Live Robo just screams "Victory Saber".

This one of those mecha that I like the individual components, but the combined form I find rather meh.

The feet look like it has old school high top sneakers on but Live Robo's head looks better as Super Live Robo. For a first try they did not do that bad I think and honestly proportions are decent compared to Super Turbo Robo. And like what you said Koh the individual components are beautiful indeed.

I LOVE Live Robo. Live Boxer is decent, it has a nice old-school design. Super Live Robo is pretty cool too, but the design doesn't flow as nicely as in Live Robo.

I have Live Robo and Live Boxer DX mecha
