Figure I'd split this off from the worst Sentai thread before it got to far off topic.

@Dr Kain: DBZ is the perfect example of shorter is better. Dragon Ball (Z) Kai exists to re-edit the show as close to the manga as possible through the Cell Saga. That's the first 194 episodes of the original show. In the re-edited Kai they cut it in half to 98 episodes. There's more they could've cut too, but they'd have to reanimate a lot more scenes.

But yeah, 26 episodes is my general rule of thumb with anime. I can enjoy the long ones, but the longer it gets the less I'm likily to finish.

PS In fact you mentioned my all time favorite anime in that little list.



@KRiderZim: Like most Miyazaki films it's a good movie. I'm not that big on anime movies though.

I'll echo what's been said about the Simpsons and their overly llllllooooonnnnngggggg run. I think there should be enough episodes to get people to connect to the characters and plot and a run that's satisfiable, not just dragging on and on.(Again, looking at you Simpsons)

The thing with anime is that's not every show is going to fit with everyone. You have to do a lot of research and of course watch a episode or two to see if this show's right for you. You can't lump every show together because of bad experiences.I thought I was more into actionly shows, but as I grew older I found I enjoyed romantic comedies more.

Of course Princess Mononoke is a wonderfully done movie, animated or otherwise. I catch a good chunk of it when I had HBO and one day plan to watch it in its entirety.

I haven't enjoyed anime since ronin warriors and sailor moon when I was in 5th grade. Not to say I don't like it. But lord knows my discovery of Hentai sure scared me off ever since.

I just don't like Anime as a story telling medium. Not for the stories, since those vary between awful and amazing, but because of common conventions that just get to me. The biggest being fanservice.

However, to be fair, the most recent anime I attempted to watch, Clannad, wasn't really bad. It just chose to start off with the worst possible candidate for their character based story arc because I REALLY hate Fuko.

I've gotta say that I love long anime. Maybe not DBZ length but I absolutely adored YuYu Hakusho and it was damn long. I haven't seen much in recent years to watch but to be honest after I hit up Toku I lost alot of interest in anime. I've been a hardcore Gundam fan for about 12 years now, I own all of the north american releases on dvd and I've got subs of everything that we havent gotten. I like Gundam as a franchise, I loved Code Geass, Death Note, Detective Conan, Robotech (NOT MACROSS), Saint Seya, and a host of other shows. If I hadn't been completely absorbed by Toku in the last few years I'd love to check out some new shows like Tiger and Bunny because I'm sure I'd love them.

I love anime. Well, I am Filipino, we usually do XD. I usually like action-y anime, but some like One Piece, Naruto, Bleach- I ended up just reading the manga instead when they started to switch arcs (for One Piece- the time skip, for Naruto- again, the time skip, for Bleach- after the Zanpakuto becoming alive arc.) I actually like it when they make an anime 13 episodes, it makes me wanna see more. I'm usually a sucker for cutesy-romantic anime like Zero No Tsukaima, which was spread out over the years in 4 different 13 episode seasons. That's what made it fresh and enjoyable to me. The only "long, recent-years" anime I watched all the way through was Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, which aired 203 episodes.

On the topic of Hayao Miyazaki films, Princess Mononoke is definitely my favorite, followed by Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.

DN could've been a little longer. They could've flushed out so much more about the Note, Shinigami, even Light and L going at each other.

You mean... InuYasha's real?! I thought they told me about that just to scare me...

Lol, well Inuyasha is meant more for the Shoujo demographic of the viewing populace rather than the Shounen. So it's understandable why a guy would stop watching anime after watching that lol

It is. My sister and female friends love it. My sister owns the movies and watches them. And since we go to the same college, we share a room in my aunt's house. Imagine the torture.
