I guess I can understand some people having the mindset that makes them want to have their game represented in this dimension by a plastic something, but for me, I see it as nothing more than a barrier. I remember a time when that was the standard. I like to think that I'm a logical fellow that can adapt to a change like this based on the standpoint that it is much more efficient.
See, I want something to show that I got my money's worth. I want to put it on my shelf with my other games/movies/whatever from the same series or type of release. I have all 9 Final Fantasy games on my shelf lined up most of the time. Same goes for the GTAs, SMTs, and Metal Gears. For movies, I have all of my digibook BDs on one shelf. All of my Pixar movies on another shelf. All of my DC animated movies on one shelf, etc. The only way I can justify downloading something is if it is free (whether it be legally or not, I don't care) or if it is a rare game that I can either pay $10 for to download or pay $100 to physically own. Or, if it is a game I already own, and as such, I own the box, manual, etc, to have on my shelf. A perfect example are the PS2 GTA games. Sony had a sale of the PSN versions a few weeks ago for 50% off, so I took advantage of it and picked up all 3 games as I have the PS2 versions to keep on my shelf.
