I actually feel the biggest problem with most movies is that they tend to take place in an AU, which instantly throws out any connection I feel to a character since they're acting completely differently or they're in an entirely new situation and setting.
I'm liking that, recently, they tend to take place in canon (To an extent) with the actual series. Despite DVD release and subs meaning I get to watch them far, far later than their intended place in the series, it's nice to see that the movies aren't immediately written off.
