This adds more subtext to Kuon's speech to Hoeru in Episode 8. Kuon probably thinks he's trying to help Hoeru by discouraging him from relying on others, since there was nobody who came to their family's aid in the cruel No.1 World. Even killing the ghost Mine could've been meant to teach Hoeru the tragedy of valuing connections, which ironically had the opposite effect of giving him the strongest hope to find his wish. Kuon is afraid to let himself be saved, as he only believes in himself.

Not that surprising, IMO. After all, Garyudo debuted by assassinating Tyranno Ranger, who was skilled enough to defeat the strong Kyoryu Red. Considering how most of Garyudo's wins were offscreen and the fact he relies on summons, I suspect that these were not fair fights. Otherwise he probably would've been defeated 10 times over by the Universe Rangers.
