Trust me on this, Data Squad is a good series. Not as good as Tamers, but not as bad as Frontier.

That being said, I hope Fusion is just as good as Xros Wars. And if we get a proper toy line, I want a a green Xros Loader. Disappointed to see Japan only release the first season versions.

![]() I might visit Data Squad/Savers again one day (Oh, I just remembered, it was Sunflowmon who needed to get bailed out of by Greymon in her debut episode), but as it stands, I'm just waiting for that one series to figure out what Tamers did right so they have a chance at making another great series.

I don't doubt that (Odd numbered series tend to be the good ones, like a reverse of Star Trek movies

I watched the first 5 seasons of Digimon in one summer. The first 4 were fine in English. Data Squad is complete crap compared to Savers. It's NOT the same thing. The first 4 seasons are good in both languages.

It's not the director. It's what he did.
Characters were given depth. They grew and changed. Their actions had greater consequences, both by virtue of being in the real world and that the Digimon they were facing were legitimately malevolent from the get go, not just good guys under mind control for the first half of the season. The fights had far more weight because there was no Primary Village bullshit crutch to lean back on (Basically, death wasn't cheapened. Leomon never came back). The actual story was a step up from the others, with the main characters not being shonen anime tropes but actual, sensible characters (Well, early Rika/Ruki wasn't, but when she mellowed out she became an actual character too). Substance over style. I've always preferred it this way. I just want another series to place the story over the toy shilling (Note: Tamers shilled toys too. It just didn't do it every episode)

Aside from a few things (Like Orochimon getting drunk), the dub edits were kind of few and far between. Here's a pro-tip: Showing blood doesn't make the unedited version instantly better. It's a nondescript addition that does nothing for the overall story. Tamer's dub (Outside of Gallantmon sounding like a 12 year old) was excellent.
