I hope this does not descend too far into political discussion, but the thing that really turned me off Dekaranger was the executions of the monsters. I know all Sentai teams in history practically eliminate their monsters on a daily basis, but the way Dekaranger frames it like capital punishment makes me uneasy.
There's a reason the "judge, jury and executioner" concept is usually used for darker, hardcore series such as Judge Dredd. It feels too contrived in a Super Sentai series, much less one that is as lighthearted as Dekaranger. I can't believe that some intergalactic high court can make such split-second judgments that we are to believe are infallible. It just stretches the limits of believability and paints the Dekarangers in a bad light (as I said, in a Judge Dredd sort of way). SPD is a vastly superior series by comparison. They arrested their criminals rather than kill them on the spot. |

Considering all the villains they destroyed were known to have committed multiple atrocious crimes across the galaxy I see no problem with how they handled it. All the universal court does is confirm the crimes already committed and sentence the alienizers appropriately. Hell at the end of the day the court just approves the delete and they Dekarangers themselves choose to do it. They don't have to, but these were dangerous, wanted, criminals.
SPD is literally nothing when compared to the source material. Dekaranger is a far superior series with much deeper and more interesting characters than SPD could ever have.

Wow, this DekaRanger debate brings up some nostalgia.
![]() Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the show. I just felt let down by it because of its themes that went no where. I mean, they were space cops, they should have had episodes where they had to chase criminals to other planets, but instead, outside of the SWAT training episodes, everything was still on Earth. And then there was Ban and Umeko. I've already said Umeko is my least favorite pink ranger of all time, because she did not even appear to be a cop. I just felt she was there because it was take your children to work day or something. As for Ban, he was loud and obnoxious. He was always screaming at the top of his lungs no matter what he did and it just got plain out annoying. The rest of the show was enjoyable for being Cops in Spandex rather than being a Sentai series (hell, in this case, the Sentai does not even translate into Task Force, but some reason, Police), as there were some great villains that should have lasted more than 1-2 episodes (like the three siblings). It also did not help me that there seemed to be a million rangers around. Sure, it would make sense, since they are part of a police force, but they used that aspect for gimmicks rather than story telling. Again, I don't hate DekaRanger, I thought the series did some great things, but it had a lot of wasted potential and a sub-par ranger cast. |

All day yesterday I kept thinking I forgot one of the major problems I had with Dekaranger and that's it! While I can see the arguement for allowing police to kill in a giant robot battle (where many lives are in immediate danger), they execute many of these aliens on the ground when they can easily arrest them instead.
SPD is a vastly superior series by comparison. They arrested their criminals rather than kill them on the spot. Besides, the capital punishment angle ultimately leads to episode 37, which is one of the most amazing half hours of Super Sentai ever. |

Episode 8 of Gekiranger, in which an older woman teaches Ran and Retsu how to improve their fingering technique while Jan just wants a little girl's meat.

I'll admit that I saw SPD first actually. For along time I just assumed it was better because I hadn't actually seen Dekaranger, in fact of the Disney era shows it's really the only one that's worth watching. To me at least. But Dekaranger had a far superior cast of characters that were developed much better.

Outside of DinoThunder, I thought the Disney shows were down right dreadful, with OO being the worst. When they have to steal the Miser Brothers to be the villians, you know there is a problem.
I do not understand what went through their minds when it came to original villains. Saban gave us Zedd, Astronema, Trakeena, Ransik, and Master Orgu. Disney gives us Lothor, Grumm, Mr Snow (don't remember his actual name), and the ugliest actor they could find for Rio (never saw RPM, PR stopped being aired during JF around me). Mezogog was the only villain Disney gave us that felt like a villain, did not look ridiculous, and yet, they still managed to **** him up during his final battle. Not to mention they had some of the worst actors in the history of Power Rangers. Sure, acting was never the show's strong point, but the Ninja Storm cast, the OO cast, the MF cast, and JF cast actors were just terrible. It's like they found bums who needed work to do their acting. And why the hell did Doggie Krugger look like a lizard? Anyway, if I finish my Hitman playing tomorrow, I'm planning to start Jetman. |

I personally enjoyed SPD. That series was so much fun, with decent acting from the cast, and some interesting story lines and characters. Grumm was a tad disappointing, and I do prefer Doggie's Dekaranger suit, but that aside, I really didn't have much issue with it. I enjoyed watching it just as much as I did Dino Thunder or Wild Force.
