Too bad I can't eat it. Too bad for you, that is.
Also, does anyone else think the person asking for spamwiches is not a gentleman? |

I don't like Spam. At all.
And that's rather interesting when you realize the company who makes it, Hormel, is based in my home state. |

Besides being a big part of Hawaian culture, for a while during and after World War II, Spam was very popular in the United Kingdom. During the war, it became a staple food as sources of fresh meat became unreliable, and canned foods became a necessity. Many developed a taste for it and it became something of a staple even after the war. This is what lead to the infamous and hilarious "Spam sketch" from Monty Python's Flying Circus. "Spam, eggs, bacon, Spam, and Spam!"
![]() Spam in and of itself is "just okay," but if you are on a limited budget, or do not have good access to fresh meat (or do not have a freezer), it makes for a fairly good alternative. Goes well in macaroni and cheese, for example, and a Spamwich or Spamburger can be mighty tasty if you dress it properly. (Fry the spam in a frying pan, then serve it on a bun with lettuce, tomato, onions, and mustard, for example.) Nothing will ever beat the super cheap meal I concocted while in college, though. Prepare a package of ramen noodles with half the amount of water (the idea here is that you will have just noodles, and no broth at the end). After two minutes on the boil, throw in a can of drained and rinsed Vienna sausages, hot sauce, and garlic powder. Continue cooking. After one more minute, toss with parmesean cheese. That's a filling supper for less than a buck.
