I'm still bummed we didn't get Victorian Clara as the companion. At least she had a personality that wasn't smartarse (Oswin) or dull (current Clara)

I don't honestly see a difference between them, they all pretty much act the same. You really think Current Clara is dull?

Yep, her character has done absolutely nothing unique or interesting other than having a backstory which was set up by the other two.

The last episode though gave her entire backstory. When the Doctor went back to the past and watched her grow up, and learned why that leaf is the most important in human history.

Pretty good episode, this one. The Ice Warriors were some of the coolest classic villains, and this update did well in reintroducing them. Not knowing anything about the episode prior to watching I was surprised at the whole out of suit sequence, but it was done pretty well.
Definitely my favorite of the second half and possibly the entire season so far.

They'll get to it. My guess is it has something to do with the Alien Parasite from the Christmas Special, they wouldn't have brought that back for no reason.

Cold War was the best episode this half of the season. The Angels Take Manhatten still wins it for me. Anyway, to the next review!
S1 E11: Boom Town- 04/06/05 The Doctor travels to Cardiff to refuel the TARDIS, and discovers an old enemy still alive. Plot The Doctor and Rose (and Captain Jack Harkness, a time agent from the future) arrive in Cardiff to refuel from the rift we saw back in episode 3. Mickey shows up because Rose invited him, and they go out to lunch. This is ruined when the Doctor sees Margeret the Slitheen, who somehow survived Downing Street being blown up by teleporting out. They go to confront her, where it's revealed that she is building a nuclear plant to blow up the world and split open the rift so she can use an extrapolator (sufrboard) to escape Earth. They confront her and decide to take her home to be executed. The Doctor takes her out for a last meal (breaking his vegetarianism). While this happens, we get some moral stuff and then The TARDIS starts ripping apart Cardiff. TARDIS's can do that. Margaret caused it, but gets reversed into an egg by the Deus Ex Machina of the TARDIS> They do some technobable and then leave for Raxicoricofalipatorius. Meanwhile, Cardiff has a giant rift running through it which I'm sure will never come up again. The polt is okay, with a couple of interesting bits. It mostly stems from the moral issues and relationship issues it brings. The ending is sorta iffy but, hey, the TARDIS can do that. 6/10 Characters This episode is all about character development, with the moral issues of the Doctor's one man crusade through time. It tries to show you someone can change, but then subverts it to hell by showing that they stay the same. Mickey and Rose's relationship is disected in this episode, showing that, while Rose will never be ther, Mickey will never move on. This episode deals with the characters really well, creating an interesting set up for next episode's Mickey/Rose interaction. 9/20 Scare Factor Barely any scary moments. At least they removed most of the fart humour. 1/10 Bad Wolf Watch- The Blaid Drwg Power Plant (Bad Wolf). Also, the first time they acknowledge the meme. Overall An average episode, with sometruly interesting sequences (the Doctor dining with the enemy), the true reason to watch is to set up the finale, along with a little show called Torchwood 7/10 |
