Kiva 38 and 39
I'm not sure how you get a henshin to make you look liek even more of a piece of shit, but Kengo managed it. Also, Nago's probably just upgraded himself from my least favorite to my top three Kiva characters for his stupid antics. And now Wateru knows he and Taiga are brothers...Though, I don't know why he's that surprised he's half-fangire. I mean...I suppose he just didn't notice the stain glass veins that appeared on him whenever he henshined. I suppose Bishop had nothing better to do in the past other than make foreshadowy threats and play the organ menacingly. Oh and evil Kiva finally appeared. He's pretty cool. Though I like how his special move seems to just be the, "Stay the fuck down" kick. A lot of the second episode seemed liek a noir movie. Probably due to the nighttime scenes and the jazz trumpet. But man, Mio...happily asking Wateru to kill Taiga when he JUST found out they were brothers? You've seemed to have snapped. And speaking of snapped Shima seems to have joined the shithead brigade. I though he was being a cool dude at first when he said he wanted to help Wateru bring humans and Fangires together. But...it seems Taiga beat him up in the past so he hates all Fangires with a passion now? I dunno. Kengo eagerly agreeing to kill Wateru, though? Really...Eh, I've spoken enough of how shitty this guy is. Though with each episode I wonder if he could go one step beyond and into a new threshold of turdery. |

I'm kind of surprised that I'm the only one here who liked Kiva's Kengo to a degree.

So wait is the Kuuga twist a full on 'just as planned' kind of Aizen crap? Godai was meant to fail these people and become more and more world weary so he can take the form of the greatest villain? There is nothing wrong with this twist but the construction feels a tad (see: extremely) contrived. Then again I won't complain about Godai losing his shit again, watching him pound Porcupine into the floor is one of my all time favourite moments in the series.
Plus I dunno...something just feels off. When you watch shows in chunks it's hard to comment on pacing because you aren't limited by the weekly wait but that said the fact that a quarter of the episode was taken up by that drama girl this late in the game seems kinda stupid. Especially since I don't even know dramas name or purpose as she just randomly turned up half way through the show and has done nothing since except gush over Godai which is kinda useless in itself because EVERYONE gushes over Godai, then even made the main male side character gay to add someone else to the gushing pile. This is the final leg all focus should be on what actually matters. I do however love the engrish on episode 40 because despite hearing exactly what they are saying in English, the subtitles said something else entirely...makes me wonder just how accurate MCS' translations really are.

Sometimes I wonder what goes through subbers heads. I never understood why half the shit is often left in Japanese.

That is why I'm not a big fan of TVN's subs, half their shit isn't actually translated. Maybe they should spend less time making fancy colours and more time translating their shit.

The problem is that TVN relies on the viewer knowing Japanese for some things (Like greetings and goodbyes, thanking a server for food, or whatever doesn't have a direct English translation for the specific word or phrase).

Sometimes there just isn't a legitimately comparable term in English to translate the word too. And rather than make up a new phrase or fudge what the character says some groups tend to leave it there, usually with a note as to why. I can't say I love the practice but I vastly prefer it to making something up to fill the translation gap.
It ruins the point of a translation when you don't actually translate. It's not "Making up a new phrase", it's using the closest approximation of the original phrase's meaning.

Except that's an unacceptable practice. Approximations have to be made just because one language doesn't have a direct word-for-word translation for the other. It ruins the point of a translation when you don't actually translate. It's not "Making up a new phrase", it's using the closest approximation of the original phrase's meaning. And while subs don't teach you another language or anything like that, I can't help but pick up a couple simple phrases over a period time. However I will say that it kills me to see words that have clear translations in place like "sayonara" "itadakimasu" or "aniki" left untranslated. And it irks me to see terms like "aniki" "tou-san" "ka-san" etc be substituted with the actual proper names of the characters. Just say brother, father, mother.
