Since my ten episodes away from SPDs finish post still largely stands in my opinion, I want to instead talk about the finale specifically, it was terrible and clear that SPD bit of way more than it could chew. At least it is fucking over!
Additions like the A squad and Grrumm are great in practice but the A Squad were barely in the show and two fights after their introduction they are defeated, so what a waste of time. Same with Broodwing who didn't even get a proper fight before he was defeated and although they could have then used the last episode to focus on Grrumm, they decided to add ANOTHER enemy above him, with so much crammed into those last two episodes, none of it gets a chance to mean anything just like Jungle Fury did. This series wont be going into my favourites list, but Sky will be going into my favourite Ranger list.

Is Sky the only one you liked? I think series had promise early on as you stated but fell short. I still enjoyed SPD overall.

Bridge was impossible to dislike but he still wasn't for me a good character. He didn't ever convince me it was him in the suit and he had no real character arc or growth. If the series had gone all the way with the darker side of itself then I could have understood the need for a goof like Bridge but as the majority of SPD was goofball comedy Bridge just sorta blended in which meant he lost his purpose.
The series peaked at Reflections and I never truly enjoyed it again after that.

i think the kalish splosions affected the budget in more ways than just not casting a human sam. i think it affected the writing as well.

I think it's less writing and more pacing.
One of the big reasons I loved Sky so much was he was like the only character in the series whose motivations were explored and realised, he got a backstory, he got character growth, he got multiple moments in the series which were entirely focused on him, SPD was basically his show. But other aspects of the series, that needed just as much if not more focus, was crammed into those last two episodes with easily about a third of the series being completely pointless and throwaway. There is huge amounts of SPD that is still left with unanswered questions by the end. Not enough to ruin the experience but enough to not get it into my favourites.

It's really odd that some season of Power Rangers it feels like they get half way through and decide they can just coast till the end since the show changes every year. Other seasons it seems the opposite is true but I wonder if where they are in the ratings has anything to do with it. Like if good ratings early makes the production team stop caring or something.
Bridge is easily the most likeable of the bunch but he didn't really get a fleshed out as you said. Sky is certainly the best fit for the work they do. Still, since the DekaGreen figuarts is so expensive I'm going to get DekaRed and call him Bridge. Wonder when those SWAT figures are gonna come out. |

It just looked like Kalish selected more shit stories than he did good ones.
SPD showed such promise, episodes 9 - 13 made me assume that this would turn out to be a fantastic series but from episode 13 the series basically coasted again til episode 24 when the show peaked. Even the moment between Jack and Sky in Impact fell flat, especially compared to their interactions in early episodes and all stuff hinted like a possible romance between Syd and Jack was dropped. I got myself a Deka Blue Figuarts, since it's the colour Sky is most associated too and he does eventually become proud of his colour.

If they weren't exclusives I would get Green and Blue. Sky really did develop a fair amount from the first few episodes where he seemed like nothing more than a cookie cutter frat boy with a bloated ego. To be fair it was kinda nuts that Jack gets pulled off the street made the leader with no real explanation. I don't think making Sky #2 to start was wrong but I get why he'd be confused. Leaving the Jack/Syd stuff behind is just one of many things they started and ignored. I know a lot of people who produce children's television don't think the kids can keep up with stuff for more than on episode. Not sure why they seem to think this but they do. Maybe they just thought no one would care about this stuff or that they wouldn't remember it if they didn't mention it every episode. It's why kid's shows are notorious for those long "previously on" clips when the show is less episodic.

And even the early douche Sky makes sense when you learn about his past and motivations.
But yeah Jack and Z annoyed me throughout the series, Jack proved he could be red...sorta, but the fuck was the point of Z? And why didn't they explain this? What is the point of an Academy and a democracy if the head of SPD can just pull criminals off the street and give them morphers? Bridge can literally see the colours of truth, Sky's Dad was a former Red Ranger and he's extremely well trained...but apparently Jack, the hothead criminal with no sense of self worth from the streets is the better choice. I guess it was at least more consistent, and followed things through for longer than Dino Thunder did which was basically a series made up of storyline set up that never went anywhere.
