Guys, I've seen this movie. Its a good movie. Its a fun movie. The characters have depth well at least for the crews of the Gipsy Danger and Striker Eureka.
The battles are epic albeit they either take place in the night or in dark settings. You see what is happening and the action is clear but I think this was simpler way of The overall plot is...kinda cliche but hey, it works. Del Toro gets it. He sets rules within the world that he created and stuck to them as best as he could without any ass-pull moments. And he does "build" a world. He explains through Hunnam how the world reacts to the Kaiju threat, how it's shaped its culture and the politics of the world under threat. Its not as in depth as one might want it to be, we might see more exploration in other media like games/comics/novels. It's better than what I expected going in. There are a few annoyances. The "Kaiju Expert" doctor for example was an annoying character but he served a couple of purposes. Hannibal Chau had a lot more to his character than what was revealed. Again, he can be explored in other media. And the ending was....Well, to me it should have been a little more symbolic. But I guess the world of Pacific Rim needed a happy ending badly. Yo ljacone, there's a shout out to the fans of old badly dubbed kaiju movies in the film. Look for it at the scene where Maki and Raleigh are introduced for the first time. I thought it was a sound synching problem at first then it hit me. I was the only one chuckling after that. Last edited by Baltan II; 07-21-2013 at 01:57 PM.. |

I've watched the movie, it was excellent! Definitely the best giant robot movie (not that there's much competition, but it beats the Transformers movies) and was actually better than I expected. Have fun guys!

What world building? I've been following this a bit more than casually as a guy who digs giant robots and so far, there's been nothing to hook me in.
http://kotaku.com/conan-obrien-did-n...iler-732969430 I just noticed this thread today, and I find it incredulous that people are predicting it to fail even before the movie opens, I'm doing my part to see this movie, more than once. From a guy that knows everything there is to know about the story, I can't wait to see it unfold before my eyes. Now go do your part and cancel the apocalypse! P.S. It already has been green lit for movie 2 (development wise)

For all those saying Pacific Rim would tank due to Grown Ups 2,I'll just leave this here.

Now go do your part and cancel the apocalypse! This movie doesn't interest me. I'm not saying I won't see it eventually, but I'm just not that excited for it. Quote:

EDIT: I've never said this movie would fail either, but what I did say was I'd rather see Grown Ups 2 or the Lone Ranger over Pacific Rim. Of course, my intellectual value was questioned because "hey, giant robots fighting homages of people in giant rubber monster suits is thought provoking and deep." Admittedly it is quite a bit more thought provoking than Grown Ups 2. And thankfully there's no Adam Sandler in Pacific Rim

The irony of that statement?
Adam Sandler would probably draw in a crowd based solely on that.
