Superman has killed a few people in his time, but it's normally a last resort, due to a huge amount of build up and emotion or simply an elseworlds story. Either way the killing in this film was unjustified, there was no sense of Superman trying other things and this being his last option, no real sense of grief despite a ridiculous Darth Vader moment and most importantly...the civilians should have ducked. Between the Kryptonians and Zod, Superman killed more people in this than he has in his entire time in the comics.

Once again, Superman from the comics, inexperienced or not, would have recognised his inexperience and moved the fight out of a populated area. Anyone with a bit of common sense should know that fighting in the centre of Metropolis is fucking dumb.

Like I say, I loved all of it, but the fact this was Superman made these moments much less forgiveable than they would have elsewhere. Rookie Superman or not.

While I agree the property damage during the Zod fight was excessive, I don't understand why people are up in arms about it being Superman's fault. Watching it I got the impression Superman was trying to take the fight UPWARDS and eventually out of the city, but Zod had no intention of going anywhere and just kept bringing Superman down.

Like KRX said Superman was relatively inexperienced in combat, and while Zod wasn't quite so used to his powers he adapted much quicker and could fight someone on that level much easier.

The civilian thing I can forgive because of one variable: fear. I have been in situations where it would have been smarter if I made different decisions, but my panicking mind caused me to make less-intelligent decisions. I can see why some can't forgive it, but I can see it happening.

My problem is Superman in the comics always found a way. I know that is boring to a lot of people but the charm of Superman for me has been that whether rookie, or old and grey or somewhere in the middle, Superman would always find a way.

In the comics there was no way that Zod would have forced Superman to play his game, not at least until many other options would have been exhausted first. The whole rookie Superman argument is weak at best. I enjoyed the concept that Zod overpowered Superman though military experience but the results were lacking, for me, a Superman fan.

if you on about the way the handle the Man of steel movie with Zod then i liked it as a Superman fan when going in i knew this was not going to be liek the reeves movies i knew he was going to be not like the comic books but even in the Comics superman has killed he let sod Die in cold blood from superman by just placing Green-K in front of them mankign them weak and then they Die he Even Killed in superman 2 by Stripping Zod from His powers then Breaking his had and then he feel down a bottomless pit in the Fortress. in this one he had no other why Zod had him ina predicment where he could only kill him or the people zod was going to kill where going to die. so that why Superman also knew that in this movie killing from him will never happen again unless there know other option and be used as a last resort.
