"Every major female character in DC Comics" is a massive exaggeration.

I'm not a big DC comics reader, but don't even try to lie with that. Isn't her entire gimmick that her breasts are drawn larger with every appearance? ![]()

This is what happens when fans grow up and write for their favorite characters.
Frank Miller is the worst offender and easily the best example. He sees his childhood crush as the "Epitome of beauty," thus turning her into a stripper with superpowers. He sees his favorite hero as the "Epitome of awesome," making them infallible titans, and, because they're his favorite, they insert themselves into the shoes of the hero, thus they make their boyhood crush bend ass over backwards to bed the hero. It's clear that when Frank writes Batman, this is EXACTLY how he views it, allowing himself to live vicariously through the ultra badass who women are tossing their panties at. I'd love to see characters return to their stronger days, when their being an independent woman didn't mean they were secretly craving a strong man to bed them. :I As for Barbara, I was never a big Batgirl fan, but from what I've been told by other comic readers, they actually found her to be a better character as Oracle and found others like Stephanie to be better under the Batgirl mantle. Really now. Power Girl is your example? The woman who is, and always been, a walking sexjoke? In the comics she's already held Snow Globes in front of her chest, water melons, and two basketballs. (No really, basketballs). I'll give you the rest, but Power Girl? No, she's always been a joke. |

Yes it is. You should see her picture on the DCUOnline loading page. It's like she's trying to steal basketballs in her one-piece.

The boob thing is constantly treated as massive tongue-in-cheek joke. It hasn't even COME UP writingwise in the New 52, so if anything it's been toned down. The character herself is an incredibly intelligent woman who's the head of her own company. So a considerably stronger written character than Catwoman has EVER been as far as I'm concerned. So yeah, she's not the "hormone driven slut-monkey" you're making every DC character out to be.

Doesnt make it any less right. You can make a strong female character without being built like something from a Miller WetDream.

Again, tongue-in-cheek jokes. Just because readers slobber over it doesn't mean the quality of her stories are dominated by it.

Hal Jordan annoyed me, not just because he was pointless, but as a HUGE GL fan I was disappointed that his story was so brief because it was so fascinating. What a cool concept, Hal Jordan, ace pilot - DOESN'T get the Ring but instead gets the alien spaceship instead. That could be a whole story in itself, here it was barely a blip.

So, have you ever actually READ a Power Girl comic in your life? I suggest picking one up before completely judging a book by its cover.

So yeah, she's not the "hormone driven slut-monkey" you're making every DC character out to be. Power Girl is geniunely fun and interesting character on her own, and she has also had some really good books and stories. The boob thing is only a running gag, not her defining character trait. |
