What Is Torin?

I've just been wondering what he's supposed to be, my personal thoughts on it are he is supposed to resmble a Crow Tengu:

but in this modern age where we know that Dinosaurs could have had feathers they gave him a bit of the reverse treatment and said well he can have a reptilian look. So the outcome was more of an archaeopteryx Tengu of sorts. What do you guys think?

I was just thinking he was a humanized archaeopteryx, but I can kind of see the tengu vibe, now.

Could be that since he has lived for so long, he's actually the source of humanity believing in Tengu.
