So a friend of mine thought that "brony" referred to the more...perverted sections of the fandom, and that's why she hated bronies. She thought that the fandom called themselves "equestrians".

I have never heard of this term before! Given the Trekkie connections we made earlier today, does that mean a terminology war a la Trekkie/Trekker will develop?

And that's why I never liked terms like "brony" "trekkie" etc, saying you are a "fan" of the show is simpler and more accurate.
