Honestly, I would have rather they pulled a Gen IV and gave evolutions to a previous gen pokemon than the mega evolutions. They're cool and all and I understand that they're just trying to come up with new, interesting mechanics, but it seems kind of a waste of they're not permanent and as previously stated, most aren't all too fantastic looking.

I would have loved to get a Tropius or Torcoal evo but no such luck.

I think the point of Mega Evolutions is to kill 2 birds with one stone, adding a variable to battles and cutting use of the ridiculous items like the Life Orb and all that.

I have mixed thoughts about the Kalos Pokedex so far.


Most rumors are still leaning heavily on a total of 70 new Pokemon, not counting Megas. Its a lot less than previous generations but nearly everything we have seen looks interesting or at least usable to some degree. I'd rather have a handful of good stuff than a load of junk (Looking at you, Johto).

There's also a good mix of older Pokemon in Kalos, which is definitely a plus. It makes for more interesting teams when you can combine old and new favorites. Although some of the older inclusions baffle me. Why Pidgey and Oddish again of all damn things?!

Didn't Johto have the least amount of new Pokemon added? That record being broken if Kalos really does only have 70 new additions

The handful analogy doesn't quite work when comparing to Johto since Johto only added 100 new Pokemon, only giving them a handful of "Good stuff" as well.

And some of what I've accidentally had spoiled really don't impress me, either. Like a goddamn keychain.

If that count is really that low, I will be really disappointed. Yeah, Mega Evolutions are still technically additions, but they don't have their own 'dex entries. And that's the number that says more to me.

I think the low number of new Pokemon has less to do with lack of inspiration and more to do with the complete overhaul. Since every Pokemon is getting a new 3D model, that's 650+ old characters (And their alternate forms *Glares at Rotom*) getting completely new looks. This isn't like animating a sprite...They had to essentially rebuild everyone in addition to making new characters.
