I'm actually hoping for a "less is more" approach to Godzilla in the movie. It harkens back to JAWS, where not seeing the shark was almost as powerful, if not more-so, than not seeing him.
Also, as someone who is so utterly bored with CGI effects, I prefer not to see him all too much this time around. I agree with PkMstr, Cloverfield tried to do this and that movie sucked. If they do it in the first portion of the movie, like the original movie did, I am okay with that. However, once we hit the hour point, I better be seeing giant ****ing monsters duking it out with one another. Last edited by Dr Kain; 12-10-2013 at 07:45 PM.. |

Sorry, but that I'm going to have to disagree with. I expect to see giant monsters destroying cities in my Godzilla movies. If I don't get that, then it isn't a good Godzilla movie.

I'm actually most afraid that they'd keep the movie centered on the humans surviving/fighting Godzilla over Godzilla himself.
I know what they're trying to do, and it feels very Jaws-like in tone going solely off the trailer, but I'm gonna have to agree with what others have said. Even without the shaky cam, trying to go in a Cloverfield manner and putting the focus just on the humans would be very disappointing.

No. No. No. Nonononnonono. Absolutely not. It would not be a Godzilla movie without gratuitous monster shots. Maybe in the first half they can do that. But I would not forgive them if the whole movie contained very few Big G shots.
This is a monster movie. Not a suspense thriller. Godzilla. NOT Cloverfield. NOT Super 8. Those movies were terrible. But I can't agree with you on Super 8. It was an absolutely delightful return to the classic Steven Spielberg children's adventure film. Maybe I'm just biased on that having grown up watching ET and such, but, I loved every second of it. That's like saying you're bored with visuals alltogether.
CGI is just another tool that takes the same amount of effort and skill as any other visual of a movie, if not more. It takes animators animating by hand and direction to make any effects. This bizzare mindset on CGI perplexes me. Nobody appreciates the craft of all aspects of movie visuals anymore. While I understand CGI does require a lot of work, I will always have a stronger appreciation for someone who took the time to build an animatronic, cast a mask, or use miniatures. It looks more real to me.

Yeah, well, I've been a Godzilla fan since I was 4 years old, going on 30 years now, so this one is a no brainer. Looks fantastic.
