This one's just another one of those "tacked onto a longer rider film" movies and while it shows, this one's actually pretty good. The Shinkenger one was awful, even though I love Goseiger the summer film made no damn sense, and the Gokaiger one was absolutely awful. Just for some recent examples.
Gokaiger was kinda funny at least, but it mostly made no sense. As for Shinkenger, I agree. Though I love the scene where they sneak into the temple by dressing up as Nanashi. As for the Go-Busters movie, it feels kinda like an extra long episode, but I kinda liked it. As said before, the frog Buddyroid, Enetan, is kinda worth watching it. |

Count me in with the "Go-Busters move is pretty good" crowd. Especially for the standard these summer films usually have.
Judging by its sequel/the little I've heard about it, I genuinely feel the Kyoryuger one is going to raise the bar though...

Go Busters 20.
Although the Filmroid himself kinda sucked, I loved the way the show used him. The fight against the evil Busters has to be one of the coolest 'vs evil versions of ourselves' fights the franchise has done. And things like the Hyperspace dome, and using Hiromu's family against him, was surprisingly dark all things considered, which was awesome. Plus that has to be the coolest looking Special Buster, yet. God I adore this team, and their dynamic. This is easily the strongest core team I've had the pleasure to watch in Sentai. They are a family, they are all strong, and they will all use their powers to protect one another, it doesn't matter what colours they wear, they are all heroes. I love how they actually had to use engineers and planning and stuff to combine all five Machines. And, as far as things go, Great looks well... Great! I'm not a fan of bulky megazords, but at least he is nice and sturdy. I expected him to be flapping all over the place but his body looked mostly steady. Plus despite being five Zords combined, he is surprisingly tight, with a limited amount of random shit jutting in all manner of directions, just to cram as much into the design as possible. I hated stacking, I'm glad they didn't use it.

Go-Busters 21. Do you even lift, bro?
You gotta love a good Ryuu focused episode, he's my favourite out of the Busters minus J. I kinda wish Ryuu was Red, especially as he is like the father of the group, but I know sentai decreed that all main heroes must be pretty young Japanese boys. God Gorisaki is annoying. J and Nick are so charming, so how'd they mess it up so bad with the other two? I know Usada is meant to be a bit of a dick, but it doesn't make him less of one by doing it on purpose. Jin is a fucking asshole. I know this episode is just a sort of knowing prod at this type of device used in sentai, but I actually kinda wish it wasn't a joke, as it woulda really added some gravity to the situation. If there is one thing I'm not enjoying about Go-Busters, it's that the show takes itself to dark places, but the tone rarely raises above farting dinosaurs, minus for the occasional piece of melodrama.

Today begins my seventeen episodes of Goseiger challenge. Does the show deserve the hate? Or am I once again the opposite of the community? Let's find out!
Man the action is great in this show, and it's even better now we have some actual characters and plot to go along with it. The monster suits are way better than I remember, and without Saban's censorship, things go to all manners of hell very quickly. How much cooler is Creepox here?! Hyde was definitely the coolest this episode, but I loved the way Agri blocked lasers with his feet, that was pretty badass. Alata was pretty boss as well, choosing to fight even though he didn't have his Change Card. Also Moune is HOT. And err, Pink has big ears? The only real complaint I have with that opening episode is the whole playing cards gig. I don't hate cards in themselves, but angels getting their powers from cards is just stupid, not fun campy stupid, just plain stupid. Even if it somehow worked, I hate the cheap use of Christian Iconography. These guys aren't angels, just putting in a few wing effects now and then doesn't say otherwise. They would have worked just as well without naming them angels.

Part 2.
There was surprisingly little to this episode. I know we have the Angels deciding to stay on Earth and fight, but wasn't that their original goal/job anyway? And if the whole point was that they needed to be reminded of their duty...dude it's the second episode. Have you never heard of pace? Context? I don't even really know what Gosei World is and the title 'Master Head' just makes me snicker every time. Why would angels have a giant robot? Oh well, the Gosei Machines are pretty cool so I guess I'll allow it. And Gosei Incestuous has a pretty GREAT (arph) design. It's a weird feeling, when a devote hater of sentai mecha, enjoyed the mech stuff the most in an episode.

Part 3.
Another weak episode in terms of story, seriously was anything in this episode not clichéd and by the numbers? But another strong episode in terms of visuals. I dunno, Goseiger just feels big. The action scenes are flashy, there is a limited amount of vague quarries and warehouses, they have scenes of the monsters causing havoc in the cities to create a sense of tension and the mech stuff is actually well done, with fun little camera tricks to try and stop it feeling too much like a guy in a box, on a sound stage. It was a good episode for Alata, who is shaping up nicely. I LOVE Go-Busters but Hiromu didn't deserve to be red, I like that Alata proves why he should be red. He has a great attitude, is totally badass when he needs to be and really cares for his team. Although I do like the Goseiger's dynamic and Alata and Big Ears's carefree optimism certainly suits the sky, I just feel Agri and Moune's wildness would be much better suited to the sea. They could still do the whole raw power metaphor, if not even more so, through the use of waves. And Hyde's serious, stoicness would be much more suited to the unwavering mountains. It's weird they didn't use this episode for Megaforce. Woulda been kinda cool, coulda been something like Jake worries about Gia getting hurt as they're both new to all this, and comes across as a jerk because he's being overprotective but it's just because he cares about her. Gia doesn't take this well, fearing her independence is under attack and pushes him away, plus all the other men on the team out of principle. It even works because the only one Moune doesn't push away is Big Ears, which would translate fine because Gia and Emma are established as best friends. Jake has to learn that Gia isn't his to control - and that he needs to believe in his friends power, which is an important message to children, but she has to learn to let people in and let them help her which is even more important to kids.

Ha Locke is enjoying Goseiger! So awesome. And you're completely right. Alata is a much better Red then people give him credit for, they should've used Moune getting hurt in MF, and she is indeed hot. Suddenly my crush on her makes sense doesn't it!

I certainly am! I don't get the hate for Alata at all, especially considering like the Red Dairanger who took a backseat in his own show, and no one hates him.
I know that UFO episode introduced the zords, but they totally could have edited around that footage and just integrated it into the footage from episode 3, as the rest of the second episode was pretty much useless. But then that would have been effort for Saban and we know how they feel about effort! Moune is wonderful.
