Why should people blame Time force for continuity issues in Power Rangers? We have Mystic Force for that.

![]() I agree with EVERYTHING else though Matrix. I was starting to think I was going mad when I read this thread, so it's good to know I wasn't alone in thinking DT had a great first half of establishing things, then a terrible second half of wrapping them up... That and Kira being one of the most unfoundedly overhyped Rangers in the entire history of the franchise, simply on the grounds of 'she was sorta emo and when I was fifteen that was kinda hot'. But wow, that second half. Multiple plots and story threads tying together, all to get resolved in the course of 2 episodes and give the viewer the middle finger for getting invested. It was so infuriating that I had to stop watching DT for a week during my re-watch of the series ![]() Quote:

Ok,here goes.
Ninja Storm:Everything. The jokes were horrible.Less "brah"-ness and focus on "extreme" sports.Vexacus would've mad a great main villain from the start, with Motodrone as his Main General. Dino Thunder:The sound effects. From what I remember (which isn't saying much),this is when the lasers started.Connecting zords? Use a laser sound. Explosions behind us? Use a laser sound. What happened to the normal sounds.Like mechanical sounds for the megazords forming and explosions for the.....explosions? Also, more Tommy.(Not cause I'm a fanboy, but he spent most of the time in a suit, and the other half frozen solid) SPD:Sam needed to be a person, not Navi. Also they could've done much better for the A-squad suits then a rehashed In Space helmet with a vent on the top of it and motocross vests.I seriously laughed when they had their big debut. Mystic Force:Less focus on Nick. The others could've used a lot more fleshing out of their characters, but we were all forced to focus on Nick. Operation Overdrive:Everything.Actors,theme,Sfx,story,everything. Jungle Fury:Only thing I didn't like was the Megazord play by play.Could've gone without that. RPM:Good, but not advertised well enough which I think hurt it in the long run. Also seemed off to me being a serious series with cartoon faced zords. They could've re-written it to be a bunch of people who took care of their vehicles and made it a light hearted series. If the same writer would've done that,Im sure it would've been just as good and made more sense. Like I said up in Dino Thunder,my biggest pet peeve was the sfx.I hated that eveything sounded like it was getting shot by a laser now.

It's really jaw dropping that the best character, Ethan, is written off as a lame cliche of nerdy teens when he's probably the most well rounded and interesting one (Though he does have issues, usually when he has to sound tech savvy and the writers don't know how computers work, or when he has to talk about a video game and the writers can't use real characters so it sounds like he's spouting nonsense).
But wow, that second half. Multiple plots and story threads tying together, all to get resolved in the course of 2 episodes and give the viewer the middle finger for getting invested. It was so infuriating that I had to stop watching DT for a week during my re-watch of the series ![]() "So in the sentai, the sixth Ranger joins the team fairly late and is largely a villain." "Well that is no good, we need him in early for toys sake and then we could make the footage of him evil like...a clone or something." "Okay, and so what, shoot more scenes of him hanging out with the group at the cafe?" "What? No, why'd we do that?" "I dunno, just thought it'd be better for the character. We're at least going to shoot new fights to show him fighting as a member of the team though, right?" "Huh? Why?" "No reason!" TL;DR. Why bring a character in early and then not actually have him in the show to then go on and cause all sorts of problems for yourself later down the line in the only clone saga to make children cry that didn't include Spider-Men or Jedi?

I gotta disagree with the notion that Power rangers shouldn't have continuity between series, that's what makes it stand out from sentai (or at least did). If i were to re-write the disney era, I'd strengthen contiunity between series nothing crazy but at least have some major events from each show be mentioned from time to time like how lost galaxy did it. Secondly I'd try not to cut out any zord footage, jungle fury was truly guilty of that it seemed like it only kept it because it had to. I'd also not end series with the rangers losing or sacreficing their powers, I think its kinda a waste of story potential (but then again I'd like to see rangers fighting normal crime as well). Beyond that I'd use the sentai movie footage as well some of that stuff is pure gold (Gaoranger vs huricanger has got to have some of the best ranger team fights I've ever seen. the opening mecha fight in Abaranger vs hurricanger would have worked so well in the power ranger crossover).
Ninja storm: Yeah cyber cam is painful but I'd keep Lothar, It wouldn't be hard to make him a legitimate villain just transplant some of his comedic elements onto some of the side villains. Dino thunder: I'd probably try to tidy up the story a bit. I'd focus more on the main cast and a bit less on side characters. Wasn't there a throwaway line where trent said his twin brother flunked out the ninja storm academy, I might do something involving his brother. SPD: It was an old fan theory but I'd include the blue centurion as the founder SPD, it doens't need to be anything major just a cameo here and there. Operation overdrive/mystic force: Both shows have a great deal of wasted potential to be honest I'm not sure what i would do beyond replace some of cast for both, giving mystic force a spd crossover episode and like dino thunder spreading the focus onto the main cast. If I wanted to be daring I might keep operation overdrive's various villain factions around till the end and have the series conclude with the actual cross over as for the villain i'd remove thrax and either use a time traveling lord zedd or maybe some kind of composite being from all the evil destroyed by the z-wave but that might be a bit over the top. |

The problem with continuity is the villain's escalation of force.
Many powers were never destroyed (The original dino coins (The Dino coins were replaced with the Ninja coins and those were the ones that were destroyed), the Zeo Crystals, the Red and Blue Turbo powers, the Astro morphers, the Galaxy Sabers, etc etc), so in the past, keeping a single continuity was accomplished because powers were passed on as the users changed. But now, a single continuity fails because it will all circle back to "Why doesn't Tommy come and help?" "Why doesn't Wes come and help?" "Why doesn't Andros come and help?" It'd be difficult to justify why past rangers who still have their powers intact would suddenly choose to be inactive, even when there's a new team of inexperienced rangers who could use the help and a new threat to humanity. While having one single continuity would be nice, it would be incredibly high maintenance to keep straight.

You make a good point there but older kamen rider series managed to side step that problem by explaining that past riders were often in different parts of the world fighting different threats I don't think it would be that much of a stretch to use a similar explanation (maybe expand it to the universe). I'll admit though it could be bit of weak excuse if not done carefully.

This is total fanwank and fanfiction, but how cool would it have been if Zeltrax was actually a brainwashed Jason from MMPR/Zeo? Tommy would then have to find a way to defeat AND save Zeltrax/Jason instead of "you leave me no choice but to destroy you!". And then you get the obligatory Mighty Morphin Red Ranger cameo for a fight.

We had this huge build up only to discover it was some random guy named Smitty and then that was about it. That's what I hate about some shows - they build something up only to have it end up being nothing.
