At least I'm not the only one who was sick to death of Amy

I worry about anyone who still liked her by the end of season 6/beginning of season 7. By then she was just there to make Rory better.

But damn it all they had to use "raggedy man" one more time didn't they? Another example of the child like fairy tale/story book crap that killed a big chunk of Smith's run for me. It would have been fine if he'd just seen her on the top level of the Tardis and smiled and then she was gone. But no she actually had to say that again ![]()

When I think over New Who companions, it's amazing how little I remember about any of them, other than Donna who stuck in my mind by bucking the trend of the endless streams of companions which were now basically the Doctor's girlfriends in an unintentional perhaps, but still utterly shameless, way of sexing up the show. Especially by the time it got to Clara and the Doctor dribbling over, keep that shit out of my show.

It's a Moffat production. Blame the endless parade of "I fancy the Doctor" on that. That's is easily the thing I hate about his time as show runner. He's just ... so damn backwards when it comes to "silly women" falling all over his "super badass male protagonist". Can't even keep it out of Sherlock for goodness sake!
Anyway, that's more than enough of that. I really loved this episode. Must admit I had the jitters from all the damn teasing, but then I was really quite merry by that point ![]() Perhaps the episode lacked from having so many plots to tie up, just a little rickety... then again I can't fault it for that because, in my honest opinion, Moff juggled those loose ends far better than I expected. I had monumentally low expectations going into it though. AND it's Doctor Who, if its on tv and it's not totally awful.. I felt it was a lovely send off for 11. Chock full of the stuff "what" Matt Smith does best as an actor. Hallucinating Amy.. well yeah, it's the Moff I totally expected some kind of ridiculousness along that line. The big reveal about the Silence was just fine for me too. Build up pushed it a little close to tipping over the line into underwhelming. As a scifi writer I love the idea of genetically engineered confessional priests. ... but I don't for a second think we've seen the last of them. You may think this is a fresh start, but we still have Clara... and the fact Stevie-boy is in charge still... We can only hope that 12 is a striking enough change from Dr Matt-Rubber-Limbs to make a difference on the hackneyed plots of anti-feminism. Let's be honest it's all still a bit.... MOFFAAAAATTTTTT! -shakes fist- Got to say though, super excited for Series 8. Peter Capaldi has a just awesome way of saying the stupidest lines with a rather scary scowl on his face. I mean, the kidneys line? Spot on delivery!. If that isn't a bloody brilliant recipe for humour, I don't know what is. Also.. he kept the accent! Props! |

I thought Handles was disturbing. Given the Doctor's hatred for the Cybermen, the fact he carried around a Cyberman head and used it for information seemed really off to me. I know he says some handwave thing like 'lol no person attached nomores!' but that didn't really make it cool with me.

To be honest I would have liked it more if he knocked the head off a Cyberman in one episode and started carrying it around as a sort of screw you from then on. The doctor's re-programmed robot butler? I could have lived with that. But let's be honest, it was rare to see Matt do "screw you" when there's a laugh or two to be had. Ah well, I suppose it could have been a nod to a certain castaway and his football. |
