Ok...I've actually seen Magiranger pretty recently. Christmas 2012. Well that's recent to me and now I'm watching again. And one thing that bothered me then and now, is that these kids spend their whole life thinking Magic isn't real and then one day a troll shows up and like 5 mins later Mom is shoving magic cell phones into their hands and tells them to go fight.

Now I'm use to Sentai knowing how to use stuff without even trying, but for some reason this one bothered me. I mean if they had just mentioned that they had been preparing for this their whole life then I'd be ok with it. But they got from 0-60 in like 2 seconds.

Also seeing Wolzard in Centaur mode just reminds me that Wolkaiser is one of the few MagiRanger DX bots I don't have. A little Jealous.

And finally I love how Mandrake Boy shows up at the end of the first episode to tell us the spell for the episode even though at this point we would have no idea who he is at this point.

Episode 3
Well that's a nice start to an episode with the human being eaten.

What's with the tiny door that leads to their house?

...Yeah Mandarake Boy annoys me.

Makito brings up a good point. He is the oldest and should be the one leading them. But of course, the rule of red is always in affect. Kai could be a five year old and rule them according to Sentai logic. But what's most sad is that Makito didn't even get a full verse in the song, he was just added on.

I thought the episode did a good job of showing the struggle between the siblings, specifically the oldest and youngest. I really liked the strawberry reference, though it was a bit predictable that it was going to change Maki's mind about everything. But as a whole the reference and the handling of the jealousy was very nice.

Also good god do the villains not fuck around with their own!

The fights we're alright, nothing too spectacular. Even the Magidragon part wasn't too exciting. It was just alright.

It's official, I love the ending theme and video to go with it. I'm not one to dance, but I'd happily dance to it in public.

All in all, it was an okay episode, not really as good as the first two in my opinion. It was kinda just there for the whole "rangers learning to get along" trope. But eh, better now then later I suppose.

Well with the first week down, my little roundup info!

• Good start to the series that introduced crucial information for the most part right out of the gate.
  
• While not fully developed yet, all of the Magirangers had their characters made clear.
  
• The villains while not shown or given a lot of time for setup pretty nice. They're a dominating force from hell that wants to cause destruction.
  
• They received their special powers such as the mecha in a somewhat nicely paced fashion, though it could be better.

Stream of consciousness observations below:

I finished the first three (and about half of episode 10 due to a numbering issue) and, I'm mostly enjoying Magiranger. The costumes, for both heroes and villains, are pretty awesome. The weak link in the outfits for me is the foot soldier (aside from the nifty helmet) which, I must admit, is as it should be. The theme song is pretty catchy and there is more than enough eye-candy to go around.

The first episode is a bit much with everyone being thrust into the action and having all the sudden knowledge necessary. Granted, I've not seen a tremendous lot of Sentai so this may be a pretty common thing. Overall it's kind of goofy and weird (I'm not sure what is going on with the ocean behind the door in mini-Hogwarts, for example), but it's entertaining. I wasn't super keen when the series was selected for LWW but, so far, I have to admit it's a good watch.
