Wow, I did not know this thread would make a comeback.
To personally celebrate here is the 2014 update *To previous posters: New rule. If it has been at least a year since you last posted on this thread and you want to renew your top 5s you may but please remember this will be your top 5s for the year. Also For those posting PLEASE follow the following format below. TOP 5 SUIT DESIGN (TEAMS) 1. Ohranger. Recently I have re-developed my love for the suits. They look simple at first site but it balances out with the "ancient" style gold trims. 2. Kyoryuger. Very flashy. Looking at the core five the palette is not that bright with cool and dark colors being a majority, but that is balanced out with yellow accents and the suits overall feel festive. Individually not so outstanding but put them together they look good. 3. Megaranger. Still a personal fav for its simple and clean design, but it is time to step down for this year. 4. Dairanger. 1990's Super Sentai design at its finest. Nuff said. 5. Tokkyuger. I admit not liking it during its initial leak. But having seen the trailer and how they move, it has taken a spot on the top 5. TOP 5 SUIT DESIGN (INDIVIDUAL) 1. Dragonranger. With the whole 20th MMPR anniversary thing going on I have been rewatching Zyuranger time to time and this suit definitely won my heart again. Sorry Shurikenger, your predecessor is back home. 2. Ninjablack. It looks the most stealthy of the five. Plus, it's Kane Kosugi. 3. Kyoryugrey. That shiny chrome-plated skull...*drools 4. Megablue. Still one of my favorite blue hero designs in Super Sentai. It's timeless in my opinion. 5. Ryuranger. Akibaranger has played a role for my appreciation of this particular suit. The red and gold color scheme works really well to capture that Chinese martial arts + Asian dragon feel.

Well time has gone on since I did my original list, time for an update!
Top 5 Suit Designs 5. Jetman - Yeah yeah I know it's a little cliche to put Jetman on here. But honestly they're just great looking suits to me. They capture the bird theme very well, and have a simplicity to them that the military suits always do. So the fact that they combined that aspect, as well as the main gimmick of the show into one great package is a great feat. I honestly don't have a favorite suit from the show, as I like them all. 4. Dairanger - If any Sentai ever lured me in with it's suit designs, it was Dairanger. I took one look at the helmets and knew I had to watch the show. I love these suits (as well as the show) that before the Dairangers got their figuart releases, they were in my top 5 shows that need the figuarts treatment. They genuinely look like martial arts garb, and they look pretty for doing so. They're easily the best attempt at doing so sorry Gekiranger). The helmets though is what steals the show for me. They look so bloody awesome. My personal favorite helmet is Ryu Ranger. But the star of the show is definitely Kiba Ranger. Just epic. 'nuff said. 3. Abaranger - Abaranger is probably in my least favorite Sentais at the moment, and it's Power Rangers counterpart is my second least favorite season of all time. But the suits however are some of my favorites. They're probably my favorite suits from the dinosaur Sentais (though I don't particular know what series I'd give the title of best to). Like Dairanger, the helmets are what do it for me. Until AbareBlack and especially AbareKiller show up, then the awesomeness gets kicked up to 11. I love all of the helmets, as well as the other suits for their simple yet effect look, but AbareKiller and AbareBlack are what solidifies the suits into the number 3 spot. 2. Gokaiger - While these are my number two on this list, let me just say that I do consider these the best and most perfect Sentai suits ever. Before I even knew what Gokaiger or much about Sentai was, I knew the Gokaiger suits and immediately knew they were a pirate team. The suits showcase the theme so well that I could show them to a 3 year old and have them tell me that they're pirates. They're simplistic but flashy, get the show's theme worked perfectly into the design, just all around perfect. However this is a personal list, and while the Gokaiger suits as I said are perfect, one team beats them personally. 1. Gaoranger - There's a reason I constantly say Bandai should make them figuarts. I may not like Wild Force a whole heck of a lot, and I haven't seen all of Gao yet. But these suits are plain fucking epic. Gokaiger may be the best suits ever and I will not deny how perfect they are. But for me, the Gaorangers are my favorite suits. They're simple, effective at getting across the show's theme, and have the most bitching animal helmets ever. My personal favorites are Gao Blue and Gao Silver. Honorable Mentions: J.A.K.Q., Carranger, Fiveman Top 5 Individual Suit Designs 5. BullBlack - I was SUPER into knights when I was a wee little boy. So combining knights and Power Rangers makes me an instant fan design wise. Thus BullBlack finds his way on my list (Magna Defender is a way cooler name though). It does a good job of making him look like a regular old Sentai member but also making him look like a knight. As I kid he was my favorite suit ever for these reasons. He's still one of my favorites now, but is outmatched by the other four. 4. Gouraiger - You know every time I look at these suits, I think they're more samurai like then ninja like. But that's just me. Anyways, I just love these suits. Have ever since I saw Ninja Storm all those years ago. They just fit the show so well. And even though I think they have a more samurai look to them, I'm going to just come out and say it, I think the Gouraigers are the best suits in both ninja Sentai. I love the dark coloring on them, I love their armor, I love the helmets, I simply just love them. 3. King Ranger - He's called King Ranger for a reason folks. He genuinely comes off as looking regal and king like. But just because he lives up to his name doesn't mean he makes my 3rd spot that way. Oh no, as King Ranger has one of the most boss suits to come out of the 1990s. In fact I'll just say he is the best suit out of the 1990s. From the way the gold looks on his armor, to the design on his helmet (you can tell what catches my attention first don't you?) As many others have said before me, he's just a bad mother fucker in the suit department. And it's that bad assitude which gives him my number 3 spot. 2. Shurikenger - Ahhh yes, my favorite character of Sentai from my favorite Sentai. It was only a matter of time before you showed up. I kinda find it funny that 10 years after Zyuranger that we got a season with a suit very similar to one of it's own. But honestly I think Shurikenger has the better look then Dragon Ranger (FORGIVE ME BURAI!). Once again he has a more samurai look then the other five (they called him Samurai for a reason in Ninja Storm), and that's part of the appeal for me as I love Samurai armor. His helmet design is great and the symbol on it superb. His super/extra mode is great looking to, but I'd be lying if I said I preferred this armor less version to the armored one. Not much else to say so....time for my number 1! 1. Wolzord - If BullBlack is the prime example of combining knights with Power Rangers, Wolzord is the masterpiece. I don't know where to begin in describing my love for this suit. The color, well purple is my favorite color so it gets points easily that way. The knight part is also a big part of it. Just everything about Wolzord is appealing to me when it comes to his design. He's just, he's just, perfect. To me Wolzord is a perfect design, both in his evil and fire modes. Everything about him makes me swoon from the epicness. I could go on and on about him. But I won't. I'll just end it right here by saying that Wolzord is without a shadow of a doubt my favorite Sentai suit design EVER! Honorable Mentions: Timefire, Geki Violet, Dekamaster

I genuinely thought Locke made this post until I read Shurikenger's spot.

I guess I just thought has a Shin Zangetsu avatar for some reason. Also you said Dino Thunder was your 2nd least favorite season, and I know Locke hates it...
And I snipped it because it was really long and it wasn't really relevant and I didn't wanna make the page that much longer I'm sorry don't hurt me ;_;

Hmm...
Top 5 Suits: 5. Go-Buster. I never finished this series and I'm most certainly not a fan, but I've always loved the more militaristic designs some Sentai use. Go-Busters captured it excellently, and the suits are probably the prime reason why I'd even give it a second chance. The small animal touches to the helmet that don't completely overtake the design is also great. 4. Zyuranger. Further adding to the pantheon of series I've never finished, the Zyuranger suits are some of my favorites. Yes, I know them as Power Rangers, but it doesn't make them any less well designed. While I haven't been the biggest fan of white accents (I think black makes their primary color pop more), and the white is extremely prominent on the Zyuranger suits, it still looks great (Possibly because the white plays a larger part, being [color] and white, rather than [color] with some white). 3. JAKQ. I know so little about this series it's embarrassing. However, I love love love those suits (Pun not intended), so much so that I'm hoping for another card themed Sentai just so I can get suits like those again. The visors in the shape of their card suit, the sash that physically pins their card suit to their, well, suit, and dem capes~ 2. Gekiranger. The greatest series also features some of the greatest costumes. They're unique, with the lack of a belt making their costumes one piece, giving them a design that easily sets them apart from other series. They're also quite simple, which works to their advantage. It makes watching them in action grant a greater sense of fluidity, and I can't get enough. 1. Kakuranger. Fucking ninjas. How could you go wrong? *Looks at Ninja Storm* Well...You can't go wrong with these suits! *Looks at Alien Rangers*...You know what, you still can't go wrong. I loved the Kakuranger suits so much that I sat through Alien Rangers during initial airings and reruns just to see those glorious, glorious costumes. The ninja motif is simple, with hints of various colors, but not to the point of making them look cluttered. Their symbol on their chest looks great, and their helmets are all unique without altering the silhouette. I can't get over how well the Kakuranger suits were designed. Honorable Mentions: Gaoranger, Dekaranger, Jetman, Maskman Top 5 Individual Suits: 5. Red Falcon (Liveman). I absolutely love the design of Red Falcon. The helmet is designed great, I love the simple falcon emblem on his chest (Being a white outline), and it all looks great. I would put the Liveman team on the honorable mentions, but I felt Red Falcon's design was the only noteworthy one. 4. Black Knight (Gingaman). That design was so gorgeous that I'm disappointed it came from a series with such ugly suits. Outside of the double visor Black Knight rocks, I don't have any real issues with it. The horns also found a nice little ratio, not being too small to look like nubs, and not being too big to be ridiculous. Add in a badass cape and a bitchin' sword, and you have one hell of a design. 3. Kurojishi Rio (Gekiranger). Antagonist of Gekiranger, but honorary Gekiranger nonetheless, making him an "Other" hero. I can't get enough of that suit. Like, at all. It contrasts well with the Geki suits, being highly detailed and more armored, but still just as mobile. 2. KyoryuGold (Kyoryuger). I am not a fan of the Kyoryuger suits. However, Gold's design, while using the same conventions of his allies, has it better off simply because the gold and silver combo just looks better. His Gabrichanger adds to his look, and the wings are nice additions to his design over the others. 1. Gosei Knight (Goseiger). His introduction gave me whiplash, but his design is solid. I love armored rangers, and Gosei Knight had the knight look down pat. The lion motif is great, and while his legs were a bit wonky with how the armor hanged off a bit too far, it's not a deal breaker and it doesn't take away. Gosei Knight looks amazing. Honorable mentions: Titanium Ranger (Not included since the thread specified "Sentai" designs), TimeFire (Too closely resembles TimeRed), Geki Violet (Not included since I included Gekiranger in the general suits, and because Violet (And Chopper) are treated as main team members and not 6th/additional rangers, I felt it'd be cheating to add Violet), KingRanger (I love that suit, no doubt. It'd likely be here if I didn't include Red Falcon and only used 6th/Extra/Other rangers on the list), AbareKiller (So close, but just didn't make the cut).

Teams
1. Zyuranger. Perhaps i'm biased a bit by nostalgia, but I think the suits are awesome looking. They make good use of the dinosaur motif without going overboard. They're very clean and streamlined, without being boring. The suits are uniform enough that you can tell they're supposed to be in a group, but are unique enough so that they're not just recolors with slightly differently shaped visors. There's also a good balance between the colors. 2. Gokaiger. I was initially a bit put off by the designs, but they've really grown on me. I like the shape of the helmets, and the jacket design is a nice change from the typical spandex look. 3. Bioman/Denziman. It's kind of hard to explain why I like these suits...part of it is because they look a bit dated, but not to the point that they look goofy (like BFJ). They're also some of the first suits I picture when I think about pre-power rangers suits. I haven't actually watched anything from either series though, so maybe that will change when I do see them. 4. Goranger. Not much of a reasoning here other than them being good-looking suits that have aged pretty well compared to other suits around the time. They also tend to have their own sort of look, while most of the 80s suits just look like dated 80s versions of Power Rangers 5. Gingaman. It's not so much that i'm crazy about the suits themselves, but I do think they're well-designed, and they're one of the only other suits that balances the colors as well as and looks as clean as the zyuranger suits. Obviously a lot of Power Rangers nostalgia here haha.

It's really tough to be un-biased and judge only on suit designs, but here's my attempt:
Teams: 5.) Shinkenger- Though this may sound like a rant, the slickness and complexity of their helmet designs by themselves truly do put them in this spot. The only issues I have with the designs are the way Shinken Yellow's helmet design looks and Shinken Pink's design in terms of theme, though I don't think there's a way for Shinken Yellow's design to change to make it look better since the kanji for earth just happens to look like that. The kanji they used for Shinken Pink's helmet design looks like it should belong to the leader of the team because of the large impact that Chinese (and possibly Japanese) mythology has with that character. Also thematically, I feel that Shinken Pink should have been Shinken White and have the character for metal (金) so that the team would have a "Five Elements" theme, making it even more akin to Japanese culture. Nevertheless, the team's theme influenced suit designs are solid enough for it to be on this list. 4.) Megaranger- This one's probably biased since both In Space and Megaranger are respectively in my top 3 favorite PR and Sentai series, but their helmet designs are really nice, and the five colored squares on their chests really gives the feeling that they belong together in a team. 3.) Carranger- Their helmet designs by themselves would easily take the #5 spot, but their textured suit designs along with that make them stand out even more than Shinkenger's and Megaranger's designs in my opinion. 2.) Gokaiger- The suit designs for this one really serves its theme well. The shape of the helmets and the jacket-like design makes this team really stand out. 1.) Liveman- A simple concept that is done exceptionally well. There's something about the aesthetic look of the combination of helmet and suit designs that make this team look more appealing than other animal-themed sentai like Sun Vulcan, Gaoranger, and Gekiranger. The large animal outline insignia placed at the center of their chests combined with the well-sculpted, cartoon-like look of the helmets makes the team look so nice and exceptionally detailed. I never understood why Yellow Lion's animal insignia looks so different from the others though... Honorable Mentions ('cause I'm so indecisive): Goranger, Dynaman, Flashman, Turboranger, Fiveman, Jetman, GogoV, Gaoranger, Hurricanger, Abaranger Individual: 5.) Shinken Blue- I've always loved the way the Chinese character for "water" looked, and seeing that on Shinken Blue's helmet made him an instant favorite for me. 4.) Abare Killer- His red visor on his otherwise contrasting black and white spiked suit design gives him the look of a fierce predator. It's difficult not to like the suit's design. 3.) King Ranger- The single gold outline of the Chinese character for "king" on his otherwise plain helmet is a design concept that sounds terrible, but is just executed so exceptionally well. That combined with the curved design of the armor on his chest and the additional details on his suit as well as the contrasting black and gold colors makes him really eye-catching and appealing. 2.) Red Falcon- The best design from the overall best team. Need I say more? 1.) Battle Japan- The entire Battle Fever team would have been in my top 5 teams for this list if not for Miss America's and Battle Cossack's odd aesthetics. Battle Japan is one character whom I feel is very underrated because his suit design is really slick and iconic in Super Sentai, kind of like how Captain America is for Marvel's American fans. When comparing the actual Battle Fever J suits to Itahashi's and Kaida's original designs, Battle Japan's suit is the only one that I think actually looks better in its final form than the in original design.
