Although your mileage may vary on the quality of the show, no one can deny that it has miraculously brought Power Rangers back from its presumed dead status & dramatically increased the franchises popularity amongst children.

So my fellow Tokunation posters, what makes Samurai different from the last 5 or so years of Power Rangers? Is it the multi-media campaign with the rangers appearing on Parade floats, & giving fitness tips through their Youtube channel. Does it have something to do with Disneys rebroadcasting of MMPR last year? Or is there something different in the show itself compared to previous seasons like RPM? |

Not airing at Five Freaking AM might have something to do with it, or on a channel no one has (I'm looking at you Disney). Mostly I think it's alot of things. A decent network that knows how to market, Saban having the reigns again. Drawing in older fans by redoing the music and reintroducing Bulk. It's not Ninja Storm. I mean, that has to boost ratings 90 points right there.

This is one of those situations where it's really a multitude of factors joining together. Sentai hit the nail on the head for the biggest ones (Airing time and channel).

I like to attribute Samurai's success to excellent marketing and handling. Goes to show the potential Disney had in creating a ground-breaking franchise. They simply let that opportunity slip away.

I watch the show mostly for dekker and mike, bulk is nice to see aswell (although id like them to use him in plot once an a while.) Other than that, its nice to see the shinknger battles and the new crazy US modes (im looking at you shogun mode)

Well for starters, this is Saban's flagship property, the ONE property that they expect to make them the most money and get them back to financial success. With Disney, this was the "brand they were in contract for" and were just waiting out the contract so they could end the show and do their own thing. It was always too violent and the whole idea of Power Rangers (teamwork, responsibility, etc.) was lost in the Disney seasons while Saban is trying desperately to bring that back.

Couple the fact you have the parent company WANTING the show to succeed with great marketing and a great television channel (BASIC CABLE ON WEEKEND MORNINGS), throw in some Internet-related stuff (YouTube, Facebook, Nick.com), and you have a recipe for success. Kudos to Saban for making Power Rangers popular again. Maybe not MMPR days, but definitely back in the spotlight than when Disney had control. |

It was never going to fail not with Viacom throwing money at it, like they did. With Disney you can tell they didn't want the show after a while, heck people on that production team confirmed numerous times that Disney hated the 50/50 deal with Toei.

Much of it can be attributed to Nick, with a solid block for it, and the ability to hype the show up beyond reason. To many children, it was the first time they'd heard of something like Power Rangers. So that helped quite a lot, from the look of it.

My guess is because it's got enough action to make its target audience happy. Although every time I walk past the Power Rangers Samurai section at Target I get bummed out on how Saban handled Shinkenger.

Plus Viacom is rather fond of making money so this show must be doing something right at least. |
