Like I said, you have to take Space Dandy as a show where no episodes are connected. Like a Looney Tunes cartoon or something. You say you don't mind it being episodic yet you're still expecting an overarching story.
You could be right, it could be because there is this expectation when it comes to Watanabe. However, he had more character development in his single 11 minute Animatrix episode than Space Dandy has had in 6 episodes. Space Dandy seems to be there for fanservice and nothing but fanservice (which is why I dropped Kill La Kill after 2 episodes). As for the Looney Tunes aspect you brought up, it just doesn't work for me with this show. Maybe if it was different characters or in a less serious animation style, it would. As is though, it just doesn't. |

Yes, but there has been continuity during most of the show. I think the zombie one is the only one something like that happened. Nevertheless, Panty & Stocking has something unique about it that makes it stand out. It has fanservice moments, but it doesn't rely on them to move the show along.

Let's look at Cowboy Bebop. That show was episodic but it still had an over arching storyline as there were about 5 episodes that dealt with Spike's plot. One of them was in episode 5, so we knew there was something that was going to come out of the show in the end. With Space Dandy, 6 episodes in I know next to nothing about anything. Everything is just there.

I freely admit the character types are shallow and the comedy misses just as much as it hits, but I don't think the episodic nature of the show is what hampers it. Did you watch at episode 5? If not I at least recommend trying that just see what the series is capable of. Quote:

Is episode 5 the one with the alien girl? If so, then yeah, that one did at least give us some great moments with Dandy, but then they were eradicated with the next episode that dealt with the Vest and Underwear dudes. I haven't had the time to watch any more and the next episode leaves On Demand on Friday, but because I'm busy getting ready to go to Tuscon, I won't have the time to watch it before it is gone. As such, I'll have to download that episode when I do have time to watch them. I really miss the days when On Demand would just have every episode of the current season until the next season premiered.

Caught a screening of Tiger & Bunny: The Rising yesterday.
Absolutely fantastic film. One of the best I've seen in a while. If you're a fan of the series, it's a must.

Kill la Kill 13.
I know this show is silly, and doesn't care for anyone in the audience who doesn't keep up, but for the most part I have been able to keep up. But this episode was just a little too ridiculous for me, much like with Gamagoori's bondage powers I found the usual teetering, but nonetheless near perfect balance, stumbled once again. That and the animation SUCKED this episode. The saving grace really is the relationship between Senketsu and Ryuko. It's amazing how much emotion Toshihiko Seki and Ami Koshimizu put into their performances, given that one half of this duo is a bloody piece of clothing.

How'd you manage that? I've been looking forward to it for a while but have no idea when to expect to find it online.

I went to a theater that was screening it downtown. Had my ticket ordered a good month or so in advance.

Tiger & Bunny: The Rising - Anime movies based on a TV series can be a dangerous thing. When they are good, they tend to be really good. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, as "Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and "Fullmetal Alchemist: THe Stars of Milos" have shown they can feel out of place as if the writers did not even know the characters they were writing. This can be both frustrating and annoying to fans of that respective series. Thankfully, The Rising fits into the former as it really does feel like an episode of the TV show. It takes place after the series, so make sure you have seen the finale before even watching this or you will have spoiled yourself, and it keeps in tone everything that was great about the show. The characters are still doing their normal tropes while also showing that they have grown a bit. The characters do have quite a bit of development here, but it is Fire Emblem that easily steals the show when it comes to growth, as we get a great insight upon his character and what his life style choices did to him. This was an unexpected turn of events and not something I would think a movie that acts as a continuation of a show would do. Golden Ryan is essentially the Booster Gold of the movie, but he does it in such a way that he is a likable character. Time has advanced and you do see characters grown up a bit, and that not everything was as happy go lucky as it looked when the screen faded to black after the epilogue to the series. The story is fun, it has great action, loads of comedy, but again, it retains the spirit and dignity of the show and is for anyone looking to enjoy more "Tiger & Bunny." If you were a fan of the series, you will definitely enjoy this. If you did not like the series, or only slightly tolerated it, there is nothing here that will change your mind. I give "The Rising" an 8/10 stars.

Well, I'm caught up with Kill La Kill. Now I have to wait like everyone else for the next episode.
