Just wanted to post my $0.02 on this whole debacle that sprung up today with Jason David Frank.
For starters - there's no hating on Jason David Frank. Have you ever clicked our "Characters" tab on our front page? Two of the options are "Mighty Morphin Green Ranger" and "Mighty Morphin White Ranger". If you click them, you'll see the news stories we've tagged with Jason David Frank. Whether or not individual members of this site or of this site's staff like him or not, he's the face of the Power Rangers franchise - there's no doubting that. The #NoMoreTommy Twitter campaign is not a "hate group" or a "hate tag". The entire purpose of #NoMoreTommy is to give the other Power Rangers a fighting chance in Morphin Madness. There's something like 119 Power Rangers in existence, and Jason David Frank's character "Tommy Oliver" makes up, at most, 5 of them (Green, White, Zeo Red, Turbo Red, Dino Thunder Black). That leaves 114 other Power Rangers over 20 years of history. For someone who has not participated in Morphin Madness at all, for him to jump in at Round 3 and start pimping himself for votes for three of his characters this last week, there was a legion of one-time voters that quickly cast their vote for Jason David Frank. That's fine. But since then? Various communities in this fandom joined together to vote for the other deserving Power Rangers. It's not that anyone hates Jason David Frank or the character "Tommy", but there is more to Power Rangers than Jason David Frank. To get out of work today after no sleep because I was super excited to be creating a special for Talkin Toku with a bunch of great people in this fandom, to see that Jason David Frank claimed that the voting had to be rigged because he was losing, to say that we're all "haters" because we're not voting for him ... what a slap in the face to my childhood. Here's one of my childhood heroes saying I'm a hater because I'm voting for some of my other favorite Power Rangers who I feel are more deserving. Basically, "you didn't vote for me? You must be a hater". To see uchihabro77 post his thoughts on JDF's Facebook, and for JDF to respond with a simple "to each his own" and not even bother to comment on any of his points, really showed me Jason David Frank's true character. I now see him as nothing more than someone who never managed to succeed in the movie business, lives off his karate schools and hucking $20 custom merchandise of a show he did 20 years ago while charging ridiculous prices to listen to him talk for an hour while autographing questionable quality photographs, and a guy who is terrified that if he doesn't manage to remain "The Best Power Ranger in the World" (his words, not mine) he will lose out on all those appearance fees that Wizard World pays him. If Jason David Frank is 100% about the fans, why is he skipping the OFFICIAL Power Rangers convention to do Wizard World Chicago? Did they offer him a more lucrative appearance fee? Is he upset that he wouldn't be the main attraction at Power Morphicon? Is that why he backed out of Megacon in Florida, because Austin St. John returned to the fandom and took the spotlight? I was a fan of Jason David Frank. After today, he's just another actor from my childhood trying to cash in on my love for nostalgia. I'm moving on.

This is fucking ridiculous that he's going out and trying to make this happen. We are not haters. We're trying to show that this fandom is composed of more than Jason David Frank for god's sake. People legitimately love these other rangers and IT IS GUARANTEED that the JDF suits will be made as keys/toys. If not for a competition like this the other rangers would be abandoned by BOA.
No one is rigging anything Jason. People are legitimately trying to make something better happen and move past your ego. Which is clearly on display right now because of how insane your acting. Dont remind me.... ![]() Quote:

That... that about sums it up. I took down the White Ranger figure I've had on my shelf's rotation since the 15th anniversary or whenever because his attitude towards this whole thing has just been... horrendous. It's a mar on his legacy as a Ranger and my view on him as a person.
And I know a guy to whom JDF IS Power Rangers. I hope he never has to see this side of his hero. What's Hisashi Sakai up to these days? |

And I know a guy to whom JDF IS Power Rangers. I hope he never has to see this side of his hero. I'm just sick of his ego and how poorly he treats some of his fellow cast members (I.E. Austin St John, Steve Cardenas in at least one incident, David Yost), the Disney seasons (except the one that just happened to feature him), and now, his fans who just wanted to see the underdog come out on top for once. (Trent, Andros and Trey namely.) I used to respect him for being so involved with the fandom, and looked up to him as a hero when he was the Black Ranger (and Green, thanks to reruns that I still fondly remember to this day) on my tv as a kid. But now, I can't give him even that. The fact that he has to resort to "buying" votes from his fans just to try and get ahead of his competition shows how sad and desperate he is to hold his number one spot. Well...I can still like Tommy as a character, I guess. But his actions ruined my views of him as a person. At least now I won't feel bad when Mr Parazzo's White Ranger comes out on top over him. |

I have never been against JDF, hell I was a huge fan of his when I first got back into the PR fandom last year, but after the Dino Thunder panel at lexcon, I saw how he didnt really give a crap about any question that wasnt about him. Heck once he left, the panel seemed better. But after this? I dont really care if I meet him next year or not. Plenty of other actors/actresses I rather would meet. Hopefully Austin St John gets more involved soon.

There really is little reason to say anything else at this point, is there?

I hate that things have turned into a rag on JDF type thing. But this isn't what the intent of NoMoreTommy ever was. It was as Kickback said, giving everyone a fair shake at this competition. Jason has turned this into, I need more publicity, I want to win, vote for me because I'm awesome and I'll bribe you, type of thing. It's just become too egotisitical. Caring about fans is one thing, caring enough about yourself to bribe people to vote for you in a competition that has no berring on your career? That's downright despicable.
And not only condoning, but suggesting that his fans cheat to ensure his victory shows even less class. That's the most appauling part of this whole thing. We aren't cheating on our side. The community has banded together to allow this to be what it's meant to be. And now Jason has twisted our message, and blanketly called us all antagonizers and haters. I don't appreciate that much sir. I've had my time in and out of the fandom and regardless of my taste on this season or that one, I genuinely care about Power Rangers and most of all, it's fans. The only hate or smearing is coming from his side of things, not ours.
