Because I just find it odd, that so many people are defending such a piece of crap. We rightly hate on Power Rangers for lacklustre projects, but seem happy to promote one of the most watered down sentai robos in years.
I'm not trying to change peoples minds or call anyone out, if you like it, that is your kink and if you get defensive from my solid criticism of a bad design, then that is your issue not mine.

Well all my posts are my opinions and only my opinions, I didn't think that'd need to be stated. And yeah, I am shocked people like it, I really really am.

And am I the only one whom thinks that Tokkyuger's toyline is incredibly average? the DX mechas aren't all that inspired, the changer is obnoxious and won't shut up. I'm liking Tokkyuger a lot more then when it aired but I look at the toys and don't really feel a need to own any of it outside the Minipla. |

The center torso and head design of Diseloh is cool and very super robot looking. That I like, but what kinda kills the rest is just how flat, boxy, and disproportioned it looks.

But couldn't they I dunno...try? They literally just put the trains in a line and stick a head on it, I'm not even oversimplyfing it, that is the whole gimmick.
Like I don't get how you can support something that is simultaneously lazy, while looking like shit while it is at it. It looks like a zero articulation bootleg of something way better. Quote:

What bugs me is the complete lack of effort, he has no knees, elbows or even really defined parts, limbs begin and end where the paint stops and starts. If this was animation, or a higher budget production, they could probably pull it off - well maybe - but as it stands it just looks like a borderline spoof, a joke at the cardboard appearance of other better designed sentai robos.
I mean hell, the poor fella doesn't even have a neck, making him look awkwardly squashed like those guys who over work their shoulders without balancing their weight training elsewhere. The mecha is supposed to combine into a robot but the ToQ mecha takes trains, sticks them in a line and puts a head on it. JOB DONE, LET'S GO HOME, SUCKERS ARE STILL BUYING IT. I mean it doesn't even look good, look at the ridiculous proportions, I dunno how this will even work in the show, will the guy be on stilts? Quote:
ToQ-Oh isn't a tough act to beat though, let's be honest. It was a subpar design in the first place, that vaguely harked back to more classic anime robo designs, but not really.
Then so far the show has had awful mech battles week after week, with one of the most pathetic mech gimmicks put on the screen in recent times. Oh what, they hate that all robos do these days is swap arms? Well guess what, this time we literally just used whole, untransformed individual trains... as arms! Quote:

I'm not trying to change peoples minds or call anyone out, if you like it, that is your kink and if you get defensive from my solid criticism of a bad design, then that is your issue not mine. It's our issue because you MAKE it our issue by repeatedly forcing your negative opinion down our throats. I don't watch KR at all. When threads on it pop up, I keep scrolling and click on something that interests me. I don't click into the thread and go "gawd, how can you guys like this crap? it's so uninteresting and boring and blah blah blah". On topic, I (ironically) also think diesel-oh is meh compared to ToQ-Oh. I originally didn't like ToQ-Oh, but he grew on me when the toy arrived, so maybe that'll be the same here. I DO worry about the long awkward legs though, as I've put tank and carrier on ToQ-Oh and it does look awkward. Diesel has a shorter torso though, so while it may help in height, it does make it look like he has his pants hiked up. Either way, preordered ![]() |

You are mis-remembering, I like the show a whole lot. But yeah I think the mecha, and general toyline, really kinda sucks. I've stayed out pretty much all of the ToQ threads bar the weekly discussions and a few posts in the main toy thread here or there, but as this is like the most active thread at the minute it's the place to post.
I've never once tried to change peoples minds, and I have a right to dislike something, same as people have a right to like it. So I fail to see how you giving me shit somehow makes you better than me just posting on a forum which is what it's purpose is. I actually don't mind the figures too much, but I was disappointed when I found out the gimmick figures didn't even follow the show gimmick.

I'm actually completely on Locke with this.
"Average" doesn't describe the ToQger line. It has an awesome Changer, a half-decent gun and then crap. The auxiliary mecha so far are jokes, I actually can't believe Tank Train is being sold separately as if it has some merits by itself, its combination is probably the laziest combinations we've ever had and ToQoh is an incredibly simple mecha with none of the fun gimmicks that previous very simple mecha have had. Before him, there's always been a reason for really simple mecha, hollow spring-loaded opening parts for a line-wide gimmick, electronics, etc but ToQoh has nothing, he's literally, "line-up the trains, fold two parts of the Red Train and DONE!" with absolutely zero gimmicks. Functionality with the Changer aside (which Kyoryuger managed without nixing the actual mecha completely of gimmicks) ToQoh does absolutely nothing, which usually only happens on mecha that are fantastic on their own (Magiking, Gaoking) or very old. Its pretty unjustifiable. Doesn't help that Gokaioh and Kyoryujin, the last two simple mecha, were, unless I'm mistaken, the biggest (Kyoryujin) and one of the (second?) biggest (Gokaioh) core mecha we've ever gotten and had awesome gimmicks that extended across their whole line while gimmick-less ToQoh is dead average in height and pretty small in overall mass. The fact that Dieseloh seems to be the exact same situation, just with slightly more transforming of the main train, to me, is a big problem and doesn't give me much hope on the future of the ToQger toyline. I love collecting DX mecha and I do own ToQoh because I want all core mecha, but I really am disappointed with ToQger mechs. I really feel like they've been super lazy with them. I admit ToQoh's looks have "grown" on me, but that doesn't mean I'm going to excuse the fact that he's extremely lazy and my first reaction after playing him was "Oh. Meh". I love the show, but the toyline is crap. The Changer is great and I play with it often and I own ToQoh for completion reasons but there is NONE of the temptation I get with nearly every other series to go out and buy everything. Of course, this is my opinion, but I really don't need to actually point that out. I don't think less of people that do like the ToQger toyline, but to me its just not up to scratch. I don't think there's a problem with discussing why we don't like something or asking others why they do, because its all in the discussion of the toy. I could understand if the reasons for not liking it were stupid, but I think they're fairly justifiable. Last edited by Starscream Gaga; 04-02-2014 at 10:17 AM.. |

I could understand if the reasons for not liking it were stupid, but I think they're fairly justifiable. One of the reasons I love this design so much (and I DO think I could do better on all of them without sacrificing the rainbow aspect), is that it's what I wanted to see as a mecha; freight trains. Is it perfect in my eyes? NO. But I am not going to complain about getting what I wished for from something I have no control over. As for how you swap the limbs, part of the fun there is that it's abusable. While I will agree that Red's train is the only one so far that actually transforms well, the others seem to be of average difficulty for vehicles. Notably, Pink and Yellow are of the exact difficulty of the Lightspeed Rescue Train versions. Flip out the limb ends, reveal connector. And I will say that mecha was better than this or ToQOh, even if it was Scramble City. I like this line for the same reason Baltmatrix does; I see potential along the likes of GaoRanger. But coming off of Go-Busters and Kyoryuger? This is absolutely weak tea.
