I really hope that Michael Bay isn't directing this. I mean, he's probably going to make the black ranger of this movie be like another version of Skids and Mudflap from Transformers 2.

I doubt Bay will touch this movie. I'm surprise no one is against Roland Emmerich and Paul W.S Anderson. They would make the movie shit too.

Not sure what you mean by this. The voice actors for Skids and Mudflap took creative liberties and acted pretty much the way they wanted to... their "stereotyping" doesn't apply when the voice actor for Mudflap was Reno Wilson and he has mentioned he didn't find it stereotypical in the least as to how he and Tom Kenny played the twins.

Bay's done some pretty bad things, but a lot of the twins stuff was adlibbed in their mannerisms. They were meant for kids, always fighting with each other, akin to the whole "Are we there yet?!" and "He's touching me!" paradigm.

Bay is a bad story teller though. PR rarely has shows with good story telling with good characters. In Space, Lost Galaxy, LSR, Time Force and RPM pop up in mind. The Rock and the first Bad Boys are the only good movies from Bay. Everything else either is either crap or just okay at best.

Just because Reno Wilson isn't offended by them doesn't stop them from being negative stereotypes. It is completely irrelevant if he thinks it is a stereotype or not, because it very clearly was and not just in their speech, but their overall designs too, which Orci has publicly said did not reflect the designs implied in the original script. It was Michael Bay that OK'd the gold-toothed, rude, violent, street talking, illiterate robots so the blame is on him, not the ad-libbers.

Luckily, I think after the entire world called him out on his BS in ROTF he slowly improved on his racist caricatures. Drift back in his ROTF or even DOTM days would never have been as reasonable as in AOE.

Last I checked, gold toothed, rude, violent, street talking isn't stereotypical to just a certain race or culture.

Besides the gold tooth, I know of a certain Teenaged Turtle trained in Ninjitsu that fits this bill pretty well. He's more of a green color too. Not too much racial/stereotypical profiling there.

I think in order to be racist, you first have to you know, hate a race.

As for illiterate? Where was this mentioned? Oh you mean the ancient Cybertronian that no current Transformer could read anyway?

The "entire world" overacted.

As for Drift, he's very much the stereotype. Being "reasonable", calm, etc. fits the bill more than the opposite of that. There are loads of Eastern culture cliches about the calm, silent, not willing to fight unless needed typeset.

If the movie becomes popular then I can see the movie pulling off a Star Trek (2009) and Transformers on us. It can lead more people into the franchise and we have more new fans. Maybe people can learn that there's more to Power Rangers outside of MMPR. The success of the Transformers movies has made the numerous releases from Shout! Factory possible.

Maybe we could get legit release of the Super Sentai shows on DVD too from Shout! Factory.
