Death note episodes 1 and 2
I heard great things about this show from anime fans, even just more casual ones. Plus, I read a preview chapter in Shonen Jump back when it was in print and decided to try it out. Wow. Shit gets done quick in 2 episodes. Not only did L accidentally narrow down the area where Kira could be but also the main character has come up with a device to protect his Death Note. And Light's fucking insane. I watched the english dub and it's fantastic. Brad Swaile as Light is awesome. And I totally did think about Amuro and Setsuna being in this situation lol. The dub is absolutely fantastic though. Quote:
Unfortunately, both cuts are cropped and have that horrible green tint to it. As for one of them using the music from Battle of the Gods, it cannot be this: |

Kotonoha No Niwa (The Garden Of Words)
I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!! A LOT!!! With that out of of the way... Takao is an aspiring shoemaker with a strange habit, every rainy morning he skips classes and spends his time in the park, through this he meets an older woman, and their encounters lead to an unique relationship. Garden of Words is a movie about subtlety, about distances, the silences mean as much as the words do, and sometimes even more, the rainy park tells as much as the characters do, and the core of everything we simply have two strangers talkign in a park, and arguably they don't even talk that much. The enjoyment of it comes in big part from enjoying the subtely and picking up the hints, it's not a traditional movie, and certain audiences might find it boring. But for those that are willing to go beyond that, it's an incredibly engaging story about the staleness of life, the nature of love and the unending dsitance between two people. The animation is gorgeous, it's mostly hand drawn, and it's absolutely stunning and beautiful, the rainy park feels so real and yet so magical, the ambient is perfect, and the movie is deligthful to watch, the music is great, and reinforces all of the scenes perfectly. Garden of words, might come across as a very simple story, and it might be, but in it I foudn one of the best stories I've ever experienced. There's no such thing as perfection, but for a while, Kotonoha No Niwa made me believe in it.

I have mixed feelings on the anime version of Death Note. They started off so well and then just completely f'ed up the second arc as instead of actually developing the characters like they did with the first arc, they crammed the whole thing into like 11 episodes. That arc should have been at least five episodes longer. They completely ruined Mello's character.
The dub is absolutely fantastic though. |

The dub is absolutely fantastic though. Which version are you watching? There are two different cuts, a Japanese one and an international one, both of which have completely different soundtracks. Also, the Japanese cut has been cut down so it can be aired in 48 episodes while the international cut is going to be 69. Unfortunately, both cuts are cropped and have that horrible green tint to it. As for one of them using the music from Battle of the Gods, it cannot be this:

Considering Mello and Near pretty much don't exist in the live action films (except in the L spinoff) and the ending of the second film is MASSIVELY different to what goes down in the anime, I don't think that's true.
