Being a fighting game junkie, I agree with Starscream. I much prefer having little to unlock, especially when it's characters. When games get ridiculously tedious to get one character, playing a 50 games sounds like a dream vs beating a shitty Arcade mode on the hardest difficulty with 2 perfects, 10 Ultra finishes, and beating the final boss with an Ultra, all with a specific character...

I actually prefer the low unlockable count. I like just picking up a fighting game (especially one with zero valuable single player options like SSB4) and have both me and my friends be able to play with who we want from the get go.
In the best case scenario far more characters would've gotten alts (Fierce Deity as a proper alt, Fusion Suit Samus, Daisy as a proper alt, Dry Bowser, Cosmic Spirit, etc, etc) and had them be what's unlockable. Also, goodness that's pathetic. Nintendo literally will do anything for a quick buck. People claim that DLC's the worst thing ever, but in reality Nintendo's been worse then holding back stuff for DLC for a long time. Makes me actually miss Subspace Emissary...

Yeah, I definitely prefer a low number of unlockables. I liked how easy it was to unlock everything in this game, I did it pretty much entirely through playing matches and not through any of the alt methods. I just don't like most gametypes outside of standard 1v1. I turn items off as well, and probably my favorite feature of this game is the Final Destination mode for each stage. I hate gimmicky stages, so this mode is great for if I don't like a stage but want to play it because I like the series it's from or the general aesthetics of it.

Also, looks like I'm going to be stuck with a pretty pathetic losing streak on "For Glory" mode on Wifi. My internet connection just plain sucks. I've fairly lost a bunch of my matches, but others I'm losing because my match keeps freezing/loading at all the crucial times. Worse than that, I've had two matches where I was about to win when suddenly the connection is completely lost. Bleh.

I like the low unlockables count, but i really think it would be better if there was a bit of challenge to unlocking them.
Just beating classic mode with everyone gets you the secret characters with ease. It's a good think i go to a university where everyone owns a 3DS, i get to play with others all the time. ![]()

I also feel like a lot more should have been unlockable... I went to play my first game and was shocked by how many characters were available. I found it fun to unlock things before, but now it just feels like a grind and for little reward. ---- In other Smash news, turns out the Gamecube controller adapter will work ONLY wish Smash. Granted, that's why most people wanted it, but... To me this just seems like much more validation for my hatred of the controller and belief that Nintendo shouldn't have even bothered appeasing the people who won't move on from what I believe to be a poorly designed, outdated piece of junk. ![]()

On the other hand, playing online with friends ran like a dream so maybe it wasn't just an issue of my connection.
