But how would she get there so fast? And through a forest, with no sense of guidance? I know I'm nitpicking, but it felt so tacked on... I don't know, I just didn't like it. As sucky as explanation as that is, it's all I've got. If you want a real complaint, I can tell you how a real solar flare works.

There's also the question of how exactly man-made defoliant would be against an issue for trees that are about to go toe-to-toe with THE SUN.

You realize that you're picking apart the logic in a show where the main character is one thousand years old, regenerates when he 'dies', lives in a blue Police Box that's bigger on the inside, and fights talking, walking, trash cans that have plungers for arms... right?

Current age is 2000+, with most of those years being spent as Matt Smith. But that's a different rant.
And I at least like my stories to adhere to their own logic, no matter how ridiculous that may be ![]()

I guess in the end it depends on how much disbelief you're willing to suspend.
![]() For me, I'm perfectly fine with this episode. Everything, the kids, the trees, the solar flare. But of course, I guess if I wanted to find faults in the logic of this episode, it would be really easy too.

So we know three Doctors dies of old age- One, War and Eleven, so they should all be around the same age. Eleven ages around 300 years between Eleventh Hour and Town Called Mercy. Add on 100 years for his misery time on a cloud, plus adventures with Clara, plus other stuff, until we get to Trenzalore. If we take Tales of Trenzalore as canon, we get another 900 years. This makes a maximum of 1300 years (about) per regeneration. There is a problem though. War claims his age, just before he regenerates, is 800. I can think of a war to reconcile his- he was fighing a war against Daleks, which have employed Time Destructors before, which could age him as much as 500 years, considering what we know happens to the 1st Doctor. This makes both of them around 800. (Total: 2900 years.) Next, we can go through the others. Two spends most of his time with human companions, and as Jamie never seems to age visibly, this would limit his lifetime to about 5 years on screen. Until we bring in tow things- The Two Doctors, and Season 6B(http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/class...season6b.shtml). This, along with his on-screen aging by this point, possibly brings up his lifetime to around 1000 years, especially since we know (Five Doctors) he doesn't spend all his time with Jamie. (Total: 3900) For Three, he spends most of his time on Earth, and since he spends most of his time on Earth, he is at least 5 years old. The time when he can travel elsewhere without a companion (between The Green Death and The Time Warrior) is unknown, but with a comment from Sarah Jane in Death of the Doctor, is probably no more than a few weeks. The only other issue is the new e-book "The Loneliness of the long-distance time traveller." This sets an adventure in the final scenes of The Planet of Spiders. This doesn't seem to take too long though, which means 3 probably lived around 10 years. (Total: 3910) I have no idea how long Four lived- there are at least two periods where he travels with no companions (Hand of Fear to Face of Evil and Invasion of Time to the first Key to Time episode), and since one of his companions is a Time Lord, that doesn't help. Considering he's the longest lived Doctor, and by the end of his run he's contemplating the nature of death and isn't that surprised to see the Watcher, I'm going to guess he's also around 1300 years. (Total: 5210) Five has no periods without any companions, and since none of them visibly age, we have no idea how long he has. However, since he spends time travelling with just Nyssa, who is an alien, he could be several hundred years old, especially since Trakenite bodies are probably a lot stronger than humans (see the difference between Ainley Master and Roberts Master). Add in Big Finish adventures (help me out, people who know Big Finish), and 5 probably lived about 100 years. At a stretch. (Total: 5310.) Last edited by AkibaSilver; 11-01-2014 at 08:00 AM.. |
