I saw the first episode of Gundam G Recognista and I'm partway through ep. 2. It's underwhelming. I knew it'd would't be great, but the characters are boing, the story's rather uninteresting, the animation's lazy (never before have I seen an anime intro that is just recycled footage from the show), and the MS designs aren't even that good-looking. Oh well, at least the opening theme's kinda catchy.

BTW, I watched the first 10 episodes to Dragon Ball Season 5. I am so happy to finally have the Piccolo Daimaou arc done as the anime dragged that out way too long. I also did not care for the filler with Tenshinhan and gang trying to stop a volcano. The other thing I just do not get is that they have this filler take place during the three years of Goku's training, but they put it all at the BEGINNING of his training. Why not spread it out? Why not show the training over the course of the three years? It just seems dumb to create this filler of him training in his first weeks and then just time jump to three years later. Thank the gods I only have 21 episodes left. I just hope the tournament is not dragged out as long as last time. At least I'm done with the major filler episodes until I get to Z. |

I liked what I saw of Turn A as it had an Escaflowne feel to it.

The UC references ("UC era" space debris, Zaku statue) make me think that it takes place sometime after the conclusion of the UC timeline, but it does seem like they just shoehorned a few UC references in to try and keep the UC fans happy and called it good.

It's definitely post UC (I think the new calendar is called the Reguild Century or something like that?), but exactly how long after is unknown.

Well I just finished Dragon Ball and overall I have a lot of mixed feelings about it as a whole. The 23rd Tenkaichi tournament arc was down right awesome in the anime form. I do think the Goku/Piccolo battle was about two episodes too long, but it was such a great fight. Unfortunately, the series ends on a boring pointless five episode filler arc that was awful and seems to have dumbed down Goku's abilities for some strange reason.
The series as a whole was good, but I really think I would have enjoyed it a lot more had I not read the manga first. The amount of filler throughout the show was tiresome, especially when certain areas were needlessly stretched out (such as the 22nd tournament). It also does not help when there are things the filler contradicts later on that occurs during the series (like Gero being the creator of the Artificial Humans instead of Flappe). Another thing I found to be weaker here were the jokes. A lot of the jokes done in the manga were much funnier than the anime, but there were some great ones in the anime nonetheless. Finally, I do think they should have taken advantage of Toriyama's major time jumps with their filler, as they tended to spend just the first few weeks after a manga event in filler and then just made the time jump. I would have loved to have seen Goku's training with Popo spread throughout the entire three years instead of what they did do. Overall, it was great to finally experience the series in anime form now, but I doubt this is a series I will ever watch from start to finish again. My favorite arc is hands down the Red Ribbon Army saga followed by the 23rd tournament. EDIT: Well, I started to watch DBZ and holy crap, I am so glad I bought the Dragon Boxes when they were coming out. The video quality is freaking incredible on them. So in my ongoing quest for something to watch while Netflix get 00 Season 2 in, I saw the first episode of Gundam Wing. It wasn't as bad as G Reco, but nothing really seemed exceptionally neat or interesting about it. I'll watch more of it someday, but not right now. I think I'll try out G Gundam next, that one looks worthwhile.

Gundam Wing is the best Gundam series out there. You should definitely watch it. One of the best things about it is that the Gundams are not being controlled by the friggin military. That is the one thing that always annoys me in the series. The military has these ultimate powered machines that are piloted by children they abuse, but these children just take it up the ass without question. I want to see a series where the child says screw it and just blows up the entire colony he was on and goes on a rampage against the military.
