After watching Power/Rangers, I started thinking what a gritty Power Rangers version of ToqGer would be and I finally thought of something. I just wanted to share my idea here:

This Power Rangers series stars 5 teenagers who have tragically died in a train accident when it derailed killing many people inside. Their souls are tansported to a train in purgatory. They try to escape, but the train compartments go on forever and there's no way out. The conductor, who only communicates via intercom and then later via tv screen tells them he chose them to become rangers. The rangers have to fight evil monsters that have somehow escaped from hell and bring them back to hell. Here's The catch though, every time they go out to fight monsters, he brings them back to life (because the monsters are in the mortal world), therefore the rangers must always mull over running away and going back to their way of life (and life) or fight to save the day at the expense of their own lives. In order for the rangers to morph, they must commit suicide by jumping in front of oncoming trains. Their souls transfer to their ranger suits and after fighting, go back to purgatory (the train). The big plot twist is that the rangers never died from the train accident, they're all in a coma with their souls stuck between life and death. The reason why they're able to go to the world of the living to fight was that their souls become momentarily corporeal. The conductor doesn't tell them all this, therefore unnecessarily giving them conflict between fighting and running away because if they try to run away, their souls disappear forever if they don't go back to the train, hence the momentarily. At the end of it all, the conductor tells them the reason he chose them was because he knew they wouldn't abandon other people who are in danger and are brave enough to fight even if it meant sacrificing their lives in the process. -The 6th ranger is a railroad track worker who was hit by a train and died. His soul went straight to hell and became a servant of the big bad guy. After all is said and done though, it turns out he died saving his buddies, but he can't remember that because the big bad guy erased his memories and the reason he went straight to hell was because the big bad guy dragged him there knowing he would be useful to him. |

A tad too eschatological for a Western kids' show, but it sounds rather interesting.

I can dig it, though how would you explain multi-morph episodes. Furthermore would each character be from a different city, as to raise conflict due to seeing people they miss, or how would that be handled?

Yeah I'm not too big on the whole heaven and hell thing either, but to be honest, without it, the whole idea falls apart.

That's why the conflict of them choosing every episode whether to fight or run away and live their lives again is so important, because obviously they have family and friends they miss and want to see again. |

Well this is just a suggestion, but if you want to keep the death theme, but don't want heaven, and hell involved, you could say that the villains are representation of death, with each one of the main 5 linking to one of the stages of grief (Schwartz= Anger, Z=Acceptance, Nero=Bargaining Noir=Depression. Gritta= Denial), and have it so the various monster attacks are either made to kill and release human spirits which they can use for things or weaken and brake them in turn releasing them as well, or something like that.

I talked to a friend about what to do for toqger

just make it where the morphing grid was damaged/destroyed. an organization/followers of zordon are rebuilding it. a new evil wishes to take the power of the morphing grid themselves. team of teens are chosen to use a new form of the morphing grid which allows them to share their colors amongst themselves. allow it to be a more fun series without the overabundance on imagination.
